Job content

To provide an effective orthopaedic surgical service for Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals. To work closely with colleagues and provide a high quality of care. To provide expertise in hand and wrist surgery. To provide a planned out-of-hours service.

Training and Education To take an active part in the teaching and training of students and junior colleagues. To contribute to postgraduate and continuing medical education. To be part of the formal departmental orthopaedic teaching and training. To take an active part in the South Yorkshire Rotation Orthopaedic Training.

To contribute to the training of nurses, scientific and technical staff. To assist with the appraisal and assessment of junior medical staff in accordance with trust and Royal College guidance. Quality To participate in developing a satisfactory and consistent quality of care. To participate in clinical audit and quality improvement projects.

To contribute towards national and departmental research projects. Management To have an active role in the management of the orthopaedic unit. To represent the orthopaedic department on local and regional committees. To contribute to the management process within the trust through participation in planning, project or liaison groups.

General To liaise with colleagues regarding annual leave/study leave. To share the responsibility of consultant cover when colleagues are absent. To submit requests for leave six weeks in advance. These duties are subject to review and such changes, as may be desirable to the job plan, will be negotiated with the post holder.

It is anticipated that a review will take place once a year.
