ERM CLIMATE CHANGE TEAM

ERM is a leading global provider of climate risk, environmental, health, safety, social and sustainability services. Over the last four years, we have worked with more than half of the Global 500 companies. We have 5,500 professional staff working in a 160 offices in over 40 countries around the world.

ERM’s UK Climate Change team is the technical lead and global centre of excellence for climate risk analysis across our company. We focus on supporting a diverse client base across the energy, industrial and financial sectors to respond to the climate risks they face, including in the assessment and management of risks and opportunities linked to the Low Carbon Economy Transition and emerging changes to the climate itself.

OVERALL JOB PURPOSE

ERM’s Climate Change team assesses the implications of a shift to a low carbon economy. We are experts in the use of scenarios to identify and quantify climate risk across a range of industries, from oil and gas, mining and metals, pharmaceuticals and beyond. We have developed a detailed, multi-variable analysis and are constantly refining and enhancing our approach to best serve a fast-evolving marketplace. We have extensive capability in undertaking ‘deeper dive’ assessments, including financial exposure to climate-related risk. The team are industry leaders in communicating climate change risks and opportunities to clients, as well as to their extended audiences of internal and external stakeholders. The team’s climate risk analysis can extend right through the strategic stages of governance, management, assessment and disclosure.

The Climate Change team is growing quickly. We are looking for applicants for roles at varying levels across the team – including those with several years’ experience. All roles will require skills as outlined in the specification below, as well as excellent knowledge of climate data and trends, and the ability to assess and communicate the relevance and impact of these to a range of clients and their stakeholders.

Based in the UK, applicants will bring excellent capability with managing clients and supporting the delivery of outputs working with technical team members across the business. There is a significant opportunity for individuals to progress within the organisation, to take increasing responsibility for managing our work within the physical and transition climate space, and developing market-leading offerings to meet client needs.

Technical knowledge
  • In relation to the low carbon transition
    • Knowledge of energy and/or other commodity markets. Sectors of particular interest are oil & gas, coal, power & renewables, metals & mining, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, technology, and industry.
    • Knowledge of transition related scenarios (IEA WEO etc.) is essential. Understanding and experience of energy and economic modelling (supply, demand, cost and price fundamentals) to 2050 is ideal.
    • An understanding of financial issues related to climate change, specifically the TCFD and other reporting / disclosure initiatives, is also desirable.
    • In relation to ERM’s work on strategy and disclosure:
    • Experience preparing executive reports, including for external reporting purposes
    • Other technical skills & experience
    • Relevant technical degree. A Masters would be an advantage.
    • 2 – 5 years’ experience in environmental consulting / climate change / related industry position.
    • Proficiency in using MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
    • Good Excel capabilities – advanced functionality and the ability to build complex tools, with the willingness and ability to further upskill.
    • Experience of data manipulation and visualisation tools in addition to Excel would be an advantage.
    • Experience of managing small/mid-sized projects or tasks within larger projects.
    • Efficient and effective project planning (i.e. managing work and deliverables; an element of resourcing and budgeting would be ideal).
    • Ability to manage/deliver multiple projects/tasks in parallel with different requirements and timelines.
    • Some business development/proposal writing experience.
    • Highly numerate and comfortable with large datasets including conversions and calculations.
    • Good written and oral presentation skills.
    • Good technical writing skills and ability to synthesise reports to a very high standard.
