In line with our exciting plans for transformation and growth and the delivery of outstanding care for our children and young people, we are now looking to appoint a Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist, to work across a number of our Specialist Educational services. This role would suit someone looking to work on a portfolio basis, as a visiting Consultant Psychiatrist for a number of our SEN Schools.

Our SEN Services are committed to improving the educational outcomes of all our children and young adults, providing support for children with Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, severe learning disabilities, challenging behaviours and complex needs. We support our students from the age of 7 to the Transition Pathway, delivering specialist primary, secondary schools further education services.
With responsibility for managing our Psychiatric Clinics as a Visiting Schools Psychiatrist, you will review our students’ mental state and medication management, holding consultations with staff, parents and external agencies, undertaking clinical audits and contributing to Clinical Governance. You will be involved in staff training and contributing to the development of the therapeutic framework, you will consult to a multi-disciplinary team, demonstrating initiative, clear decision making and leadership skills in the delivery of high quality clinical care within and education setting.
The Psychiatrist is involved in each stage of a young person’s journey through the school, positively impacting on the effectiveness of specialist educational provision and outcomes. You will be responsible for providing evidence-based Psychiatric care and oversight for young people who require medical intervention as part of a holistic approach and liaising with staff, families and external agencies. This does not include all young people at the school rather those for whom psychiatric care is required as part of their care plan.
Teams will meet regularly to review and discuss young people’s progress, sometimes as an MDT and at other times with Educational and Residential Care teams & external agencies. There will be opportunities for Consultation to Education and Care Teams around particular young people as well as opportunities for teaching and training in relation to all aspects of mental health and learning disabilities. Clinical commitments permitting, you may also have the opportunity to be contribute to the referrals process within each school.
Each school has a Clinical Integration Lead whom you will work alongside to support the Clinical Team and the Senior Leadership Team at the school. You will also be expected to take part in Clinical Governance and Audit.

The Forum School is a 38-52 weeks school and home for children and young people diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Children and young people have full access to the National Curriculum with teaching appropriately differentiated to meet their needs. In addition, The Forum School draws upon a proven programme of specialist education and 24 hour care with a wide range of clinical and therapeutic inputs.
Purbeck View Schoolis a 38 and 52-week mixed-gender residential school, welcoming students aged 7-19 years old with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. We can also support co-existing conditions of Autism, learning difficulties and complex needs. Day provision is available for students who live close by. We offer access to the National Curriculum using modified or differentiated programmes of study, where appropriate. In addition, we provide vocational training and further education opportunities. Drawing upon our proven expertise in specialist education and 24-hour care, we focus on the development of personal, social, communication and living skills. A multi-disciplinary team and high staff ratios ensure intensive individual support.
Cambian Lufton College is an independent provider of specialist further education and residential care in the South West. We offer day and up to 52 week residential placements for young people aged 16 to 25 years. We typically support students who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, moderate to severe learning disabilities and a range of behaviour, emotional and complex needs (including medical). Students will have an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP) reflecting their learning disability and assessed support needs.

Requirements

MRCPsych or equivalent
Certificate of completion of Specialist Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
Full General Medical Council registration on the Specialist Register
Approved Clinician status (Section 12 of MHA)
Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in busy environment
Able to evidence good multi-disciplinary team working
Evidence of development of special interest in learning disabilities (desirable)
Successful candidates will have to meet the person specification in order to be offered this post. All candidates will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and reference checks.
