We are pleased to be able to offer a full-time permanent position of Lead Psychologist for the Hellingly Centre, an award winning medium and low secure forensic mental health service in the heart of Sussex.

The successful applicant will lead a dedicated and skilled psychology and psychological therapies team, including clinical and forensic psychology, speech and language therapy, arts psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, addiction counselling, and pre- qualified team members.

The team provides psychological assessment, therapy and consultation to 4 wards at the Hellingly Centre, a premier forensic healthcare facility that comprises of 3 medium secure (male and female) wards, one low secure ward and a central therapies team. The excellent facilities, large psychology resource and strong ethos of MDT working provide an excellent foundation for innovative and evidence based psychological practice to flourish.
  • Provide professional and clinical supervision and leadership, and wellbeing support, to the Psychology and Psychological therapies team at the Hellingly Centre.
  • Providing a responsive, NICE informed, evidence based and accessible psychological assessment and treatment service, alongside MDT colleagues.
  • Develop and support a skilled MDT workforce, working with service users from diverse backgrounds and with varying offending histories, presenting with high risk/challenging behaviours and complex neuro developmental / personality / Mental health challenges.
  • Lead on representing the PPT team within the Centre, and more broadly be an active member of the Centre leadership team, supporting strategy development / implementation and high-quality service delivery.
Forensic Healthcare Services provide a service for mentally-disordered offenders across the forensic care pathway, in secure environments through to community support. We work alongside Criminal Justice Agencies to support the work of Public Protection and Integrated Offender Management Teams and our work in Criminal Justice Liaison, Restorative Justice, Secure Recovery and Service user led approaches are nationally recognised.

We have opened a state of the art new building which provides an excellent therapeutic and work environment. Our new development at the Hellingly Centre will be providing medium and low secure services for both men and women.

The service has developed a model of care called Secure Recovery. It provides the framework to support service users in their pathway through the services and return to life in the community. Secure Recovery is underpinned by values-based practice to foster hope, positive self identity, pro-social choices and personal responsibility.
