Base Location: Perth, Glasgow, Aberdeen or Inverness

Salary: Up to £56,000 + performance-related bonus + car/car allowance and a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

What is the Role?

SSEN Transmission are currently seeking highly motivated and experienced Consents Managers/Environmental Planners to support the delivery of Major, large-scale terrestrial Transmission infrastructure. You will work on iconic, National infrastructure projects directly facilitating Scotland’s ambitions to meet NetZero through the transportation of renewable energy to the centres of demand.

We are seeking candidates at senior / associate level, although ambitious highly motivate applicants at lower grades will also be considered.

You will join a multi-award winning team recognised for our sector leading planning and sustainability initiatives (RTPI In-house planning team of the year – Finalist, IEMA Sustainability Impact Awards – Biodiversity & Environmental Net Gain – Winner). Working under a Lead Consents & Environment Manger, there will be a high level of autonomy for your projects with the benefit of experienced support and guidance where required.

Key Responsibilities For The Roles Will Include
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary project team to Secure Planning Permission and Electricity Act consents for Nationally significant electricity infrastructure projects (Planning Permission, Electricity Act and Environmental consents), negotiating challenging conditions with statutory authorities and submitting robust supporting information.
  • Lead on and coordinate site appraisals and optioneering studies to ensure all consenting and technical risks are understood and incorporated into the development and refinement of project design.
  • Oversee and manage external consultants to deliver proportionate and robust Environmental Impact Assessments and appraisals.
  • Develop, control and build mutually beneficial external stakeholder relationships (consenting bodies, statutory authorities, key consultees, and government departments).
What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have
  • Detailed knowledge of the Scottish Planning Process, Consenting regimes and Environmental Impact Assessment legislation.
  • Demonstrable Project Management experience and understanding of how to manage all aspects of the delivery of major projects e.g., project definition and set up, management of consultants, costs, risk, quality and timing is essential to the success of this role.
  • Ideally you will have a Planning or Environmental related degree, preferably with post graduate qualification coupled with experience in a relevant industry (e.g., infrastructure, environmental / planning consultancy dealing with major consenting projects). Membership of an appropriate planning or environmental professional body is also desirable.
  • A willingness to contribute, adapt, and learn within a busy, fast-moving team, dealing with challenges and opportunities across am extensive workload. Innovation and new ideas are welcomed where they can add value and improve the consenting approach and will be rewarded with good opportunities for long term career progressions within this key sector.
