This role reports to the Raw Materials Purchasing Manager.Purpose of role- Manage the commercial relationship with third party suppliers for the Connectivity (Telecoms) business, with focus on the most critical and highest value direct materials including but not limited to sourcing strategy and supplier relationships management.
- Lead commercial discussions with suppliers for sourcing and outsourcing projects through both evaluation and execution.
- Provide commercial input to decisions on sourcing and selection in support of business goals and targets.
- Provide market knowledge and opportunities from the supply chain that can be exploited by the business to complement and enhance the supplier portfolio.
- Build, maintain and manage critical strategic supplier relationships.
- Accountability for identifying sustained cost savings and mitigate adverse costs.
- Drive sustainable and ethical sourcing practices within the supply chain and apply best practice with suppliers on the delivered products into the business.
- Manage the strategic sourcing, search, and supplier evaluation process, conducting RfQ’s and commercial negotiations.
- Securing a global supply base that meets the organization’s cost and performance targets.
- Negotiate and implement supply agreements.
- Provide insights and recommendations based on analysis, research, industry trends, benchmarking, and best practices.
- With Engineering, mitigate any risk in the supply chain by identifying single source materials and approving new sources of supply through established or new suppliers.
- Work positively to develop and foster good working relationships with colleagues in order to maintain a culture of mutual respect and dignity.
- Design to Cost; with Engineering, work with new and established suppliers to challenge design and manufacturing methods with a view to reducing our total cost of ownership, without detriment to quality.
- Provide statistical purchasing data as required to the Central Purchasing Function in Milan.
- Where applicable, work with Global Commodity Leaders based in Milan to identify opportunities and align with Group strategies.
- Identify and assess commercial advantages to be gained from low cost manufacturing countries.
- The jobholder will also be required to undertake travel as part of their role to suppliers based in the UK and overseas.
- A fast growth business transitioning into an organisation where procedures and processes continue to develop where risk to sustained supply is a constant challenge.
- Role holder needs to be able to work independently and collaboratively in a complex and often loosely defined environment with multiple stakeholders.
- Proven track record of managing the strategic sourcing processes and critical supplier relationships.
- Demonstrated experience influencing senior executives.
- Competent with interpreting supply agreements and developing supply chain risk plans.
- Have an excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience of SAP will be essential.
- Experience in Purchasing working within a manufacturing environment.
- Degree ideally in Engineering, Business, Operations, Strategy, or related field
- Ideally CIPS qualified or working towards professional membership
- Demonstrated ability to forge close business relationships with internal and external stakeholders at senior level.
- Skilled negotiator adept at managing negotiations at management level with both external and internal stakeholders.
- Expertise in delivering change programmes to switch supply base to achieve lower cost / improved performance whilst retaining secure supply.
- Decision Making/Problem Solving – able to make decisions in complex/ambiguous situations and with incomplete data.
