Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the department while working closely with the Head of Property and Chief Operating Officer. You’ll contribute to planning and implementing new policies and procedures to enhance safety standards, monitor their effectiveness, and implement protective measures as needed to meet legal requirements and best practices.

About The Mare and Foal Sanctuary

The Mare and Foal Sanctuary is the largest equine welfare charity in the South West peninsula dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of horses and ponies who have suffered neglect, abuse and trauma. We also deliver a range of Equine Assisted Services with our rescued horses and ponies. The Mare and Foal Sanctuary has five sites across Devon, a clear five-year strategy and is ambitious for the future.

About the Role

This is a hybrid role with a nominated base at Honeysuckle Farm and operates on an annualised hours contract, which is calculated based on an average of 30 hours per week, with 25 hours as the core hours.

Please note that this role is subject to a DBS check, and you will be required to provide proof of your right to work in the UK.

Salary Range: Band G1 £25,206 pro rata

What will you be doing?

Service Management
Coordinate annual services for fire alarms, fire extinguishers and intruder alarms, while overseeing fire testing at specific locations. Efficiently manage the service desk function utilising a CMMS platform called SHIRE, including work order allocation, compliance schedules, Purchase Order creation, and maintaining financial records.

Safety Compliance
Maintain up-to-date Risk Assessments and COSHH sheets, promptly addressing issues. Follow up on inspection outcomes at various sites to ensure compliance with safety standards.

Documentation and Reporting
Create and manage Health and Safety plans, procedures and associated documentation. Safely store and control all Health and Safety documents and records within SHIRE and our SharePoint intranet system. Generate necessary reports for the Chief Operating Officer.

Support and Communication
Provide information and support to site teams as directed by our COO for Sanctuary Health and Safety compliance. Disseminate Health and Safety information to employees and assist in the development of the Health and Safety induction process.

Campaigns and Permits
Collaborate in the development and implementation of Health, Safety, and Wellbeing campaigns. Obtain consents/permits, permits to work and notify relevant bodies about restricted activities on Sanctuary sites.

Issue Management and Guidance
Manage and escalate issues to the Chief Operating Officer when necessary. Offer guidance, direction and instruction to colleagues, as required.

Adaptability and Additional Duties
Display a flexible attitude, multitask efficiently, and manage a varied workload. Undertake additional projects and reasonable duties, as required.

What will you bring?

Strong organisational and communication skills.
An IOSH certification and either a NEBOSH certification or the willingness to pursue one.
Flexibility and the ability to multitask.
Effective management of a busy and diverse workload.
Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks as needed.
