We are seeking to appoint a Communications Officer to join ALNAP. The Active Learning Network for Accountability and Performance in Humanitarian Action (ALNAP) is a system-wide network organisation dedicated to improving the accountability and performance of humanitarian action by strengthening the humanitarian evidence base through sharing lessons, identifying key issues and, where appropriate, providing leadership to find collective approaches and solutions. About the role

This role is based in the UK.

This is an important role in ALNAP’s communications team. The successful candidate will contribute to the improvement of humanitarian policy and practice by delivering creative and engaging communications that increase the uptake of ALNAP’s research, learning and evidence.

ALNAP’s communications officer will work across the full range of our communications projects including delivery of international, hybrid and in-person events and engaging digital first publications, drafting and scheduling of social media updates, commissioning and creation of wide range of creative content and developing and delivering communications plans for individual workstreams. They will also contribute to new and exciting projects including the production of new podcasts, the rebranding of the network and the development of ALNAP’s new website.

About you

We are seeking to appoint a Communications Officer with previous experience working in an established, external-facing communications team in a research and/or humanitarian context.

Essential


Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (especially Illustrator and InDesign).

Experience

  • Experience of managing relationships with external agencies and freelancers.

Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise and communicate with colleagues at all levels of seniority and from different cultures.
  • Ability to work closely with and advise researchers, helping to shape research communications for target audiences.
  • Excellent writing skills, and the ability to summarise research information in clear, web-friendly, non-specialist language.
  • Strong IT skills; ability to learn new software and systems quickly.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Self-starter – ability to generate plans and ideas and carry them through to completion .
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines and under pressure.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.

Desirable

  • Experience in coordinating communications for a network or membership organisation.
  • Interest and experience in humanitarian issues.
  • Experience in research communications.
  • Fluency in other languages.
