As Senior Communications and Engagement Manager in the NHS England London Communications team you will play a pivotal role in our busy, friendly and innovative team.

You will support the capital’s ongoing response to the Covid-19 pandemic, including the NHS’ historic vaccination programme, and with a focus on media relations will lead our media team developing our proactive media strategy as well as leading our reactive response to complex issues affecting the capital.

This work will include finding and delivering proactive stories about the breadth of innovation across the NHS in London and as well as responding to emerging stories and issues to ensure that the NHS, its staff and their work are fairly represented, and the information that patients get through the media is accurate.

You will play an important role within the team, including leading our press function, taking on line management responsibilities and, where appropriate, stepping in to support or cover for the associate head of team.

You will work closely with colleagues in other parts of the communications team, and in the wider organisation, to make sure our proactive work is integrated across channels, and is seen and understood across different audiences.

And you will be expected to liaise effectively with stakeholders, government departments and other agencies.

You’ll have strong news judgement, strong writing skills, an excellent understanding of the media landscape and experience of dealing with national media.

You should also be able to demonstrable the ability to build trust with, and influence, senior internal stakeholders.

Please note that the reason for the fixed term of your contract is Secondment Cover.
