We are searching for an enthusiastic and motivated communications coordinator to engage public and research audiences with the mission of the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute.

The Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute (CRUK CI) is home to over 400 talented staff and students and aims to deliver world-leading research that transforms discoveries in the lab into real benefits for people with cancer.

The Communications Coordinator will work closely with the Head of Brand and Communications and other stakeholders to help implement an effective multi-channel communications strategy on behalf of the CRUK CI to raise the profile and impact of our research activity to a wide range of audiences.

Working within the new Brand and Communications team, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing content for the website (www.cruk.cam.ac.uk) and social media channels, providing editorial support, leading the CRUK CI’s public engagement and outreach programme, and supporting internal communications.

The role

This new and varied role will involve:

  • developing content for the department’s website and social media channels
  • developing and leading the Institute’s public engagement and outreach activities
  • supporting internal communications through newsletters, intranet improvements and staff events
  • providing editorial support, and contribute ideas for content development
  • coordinating the reporting of analytics for website and social channels to ensure content is working within the current communications strategy

What you’ll need to succeed

To be considered for this position you will have:

  • experience of translating complex information into engaging copy for a wide range of audiences
  • an eye for detail and the ability to produce high quality, accurate copy to tight deadlines
  • the ability to create compelling content for digital channels, including web, emails and social media
  • experience of delivering projects involving multiple stakeholders
  • knowledge of a broad range of communications disciplines
  • excellent planning and organisation skills with the ability to manage a large number of tasks to multiple deadlines
  • excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships
  • the ability to develop creative and engaging public outreach and engagement opportunities
