A quick look at the role

The Employee Communications Advisorhas two primary responsibilities. The first is creating engaging campaigns and content for Biffa’s internal channels. The successful candidate will be a talented writer who is organised, creative and passionate about our purpose of changing the way people think about waste. Biffa runs a range of campaigns across the year on important topics such as keeping our people safe, making them feel included, all things sustainability and so much more, so there is a huge opportunity to really make a difference. The second main strand of the role is developing and delivering memorable events for a variety of internal stakeholders. These include large-scale events such as leadership and manager conferences, divisional conferences, employee roadshows and recognition award ceremonies.

*** This is a home based role with occasional travel as required ***

A quick look at the role.

  • Create engaging multichannel campaigns and content for Biffa’s internal channels. Working closely with the broader corporate affairs team (particularly the media team) and key stakeholders across Biffa on important topics such as keeping our people safe, making them feel included and sustainability.
  • Write down to earth and digestible day to day content for Biffa’s internal channels, working alongside the team to proactively manage this in the Content Calendar. Building core networks to “mine” for stories and delivering them in a way that makes maximum impact.
  • Work with the team to manage Biffa’s flagship events from creating the initial brief, theme and objectives to managing venues, logistics, sub-budgets and delivering the event itself. Events include leader and manager conferences, employee roadshows, divisional conferences and award recognition ceremonies.
  • Proof content from other members of the team, providing a critical eye to ensure content is relevant, digestible, and understandable on a range of channels.
  • Support the management of content delivery and updates across our network of channels including our employee app, Biffa Beat, the intranet, all employee calls and events.
  • Manage the Biffa Involvement Group (BIG) - the name for our employee forum. From brainstorming content ideas, engaging with the group to get their steers and feedback and ensuring a slick cascade of communication throughout the year to build further membership.
  • Support the management of our Employee Recognition scheme The Diamond Awards by promoting the scheme, reviewing monthly nominations, issuing recognition letters, and taking the lead with the awards ceremony including production of collateral and speeches. Take a critical eye to current process to suggest improvements.
  • Manage in-house design work for campaigns, in conjunction with Biffa’s designer, to ensure clear briefs are provided and delivery is in good time for our stakeholders.
  • Manage the production and scripts for regular All Employee and Leadership calls. Keeping a close eye on business updates and news to inform this work.
  • Lead the in-house production of employee newspaper “Biffa News”, including editorial support, collating and researching content. Work closely with Biffa’s designer to bring the stories to life and take a critical eye to current process to suggest improvements.
  • Support the management of content for our intranet “OBi” and employee app “Beat” including taking the lead with our associated content calendar to ensure regular communications and avoiding potential clashes.
  • Manage the development and execution of various communication plans to support various campaigns which will help deliver our people strategy including Diversity and Inclusion, Engagement, Modern Slavery, Wellbeing and Benefits projects.
  • Support the HR team with events across the year including their Team and Pride Day, as well as managing the annual HR Conference and quarterly all-HR calls from cradle to grave.
