Do you have experience in commissioning and is able to demonstrate proactiveness and resilience in sometimes challenging situations?


We are looking for Commissioning Engineers to join us within our Capital Delivery team. You will support Capital Delivery programmes working on water and waste projects, utilising your knowledge to provide a clear strategy for commissioning activities.

We have 1 vacancy for our Raynesway site, and also one for our Finham site.


The type of projects you could expect to work on will be a variety of industry leading Water and Waste initiatives. Our National Environmental Policy programme for example is covering a large number of waste water sites, involving a number of stakeholders and utilising a number of new technology process units. We are also investing in Advanced Digestion and various resilience work streams.

These are fantastic opportunities where you will be a key driver in the testing of our assets and bringing them into service. The role will offer you the autonomy to introduce new processes and will offer you the freedom to think innovatively.

The experience you’ll need for this role..


Coming from a background in Water and/or Waste Treatment would be a real asset to the role and add real value to our projects.

Having a broad knowledge around Mechanical, Electrical, ICA Engineering, Commissioning planning and delivery will allow you to understand how our assets work and ensure they are fully optimised. It is desirable that you will be qualified to an HND level in an engineering discipline with a degree also being of benefit, however a time served background in water/waste/process testing and commissioning would also be useful and be given due consideration. We are looking for somebody who is confident, proactive and shows resilience in sometimes challenging situations. You will be personable and be able to build relationships quickly with our contracting partners and to influence them.


Furthermore to this you’ll need..


  • Experience in commissioning activities
  • Understanding of network control
  • Be able to demonstrate successful examples of project delivery
  • Understand the importance of optimisation and how to achieve this on projects
  • Expertise and demonstrable experience in the verification of plant processes and performance
  • Plant acceptance on behalf of Client organisations
  • Overview knowledge of NEC Conditions of Contract
  • Experience of supply chain management (with emphasis on financial, H&S, outputs, and quality)
  • Risk management knowledge and understanding
  • Experience of working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to deliver project objectives


What you’ll do as a Commissioning Engineer..

  • The role will encompass, technical input to projects from feasibility, through to detailed design, construction, testing, commissioning and handover.
  • The role will have a particular emphasis around commissioning, including working with the Contractor, Wholesale Operations and Network Control. Developing and delivering detailed commissioning methodologies and driving continuous improvements.
  • Liaison with the contractor to collate suitable training plans for Wholesale Operations, with a view that in the future you would become a point of contact to assist with upskilling and training to Wholesale Operations as and when required.
  • Responsible for the successful delivery (outputs and dates within allowable expenditure), especially commissioning and hand over, of those projects assigned to him/her
  • Deliver commissioning plan with Project Manager and D&B Contractor
  • Contribute to the: Design meetings, Factory testing, Site acceptance testing, Hazop meetings, development and acceptance of testing, commissioning and training plans
  • Facilitate the handover of projects to production upon completion
  • Responsible for the provision of technical support and assistance to production during commissioning and handover of projects.
  • Contribute to the development of project delivery and commissioning planning documents
  • Assist with upskilling and training to the end user as and when required
  • Contribute to problem resolution in areas where no single solution necessarily exists and/or where no standard applies.
  • Respond to and address incidents with the Project Manager as and when they occur and ensure the root cause is identified and actions taken to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Support with the Creation and maintenance of ‘Commissioning manuals’
  • Contribute to project closure / review sessions to ensure lessons learned are captured and commissioning manuals updated
  • Support project completion performance and reliability testing, assist in interpreting results prior to handover

Qualifications you’ll need..


  • Qualified in an Engineering, Construction, Project Management discipline
  • Electrically qualified and conversant with latest regulations
  • HND/HNC in a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Qualification
  • Full UK driving license
  • Desirable: Full Membership status (or close to) of an appropriate professional body (e.g. ICE, CIWEM, IMechE, IET).
