Following our commitment to invest £12.5 billion in low carbon projects over the next 5 years, we have significant growth plans and are well on our way to achieving our ambition to build a world that’s more sustainable and inclusive for you, your family, the community you live in and for generations to come.Join us on our journey to net zero and help us power change.Base Location: Glasgow | Perth | ReadingSalary: £44,100 - £66,100 + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible working options availableWhat is the Role?We are seeking to recruit a Commercial Solicitor to join our legal team based in either our Glasgow, Perth or Reading offices with commercial and corporate experience or relevant transferrable skills.Reporting to the respective Head of Legal (SSE Enterprise), you will be responsible for:- Providing legal advice to a variety of stakeholders in respect of the projects function within Distributed Energy (DE), including tenders, acquisitions and general commercial agreements.
- Providing dedicated legal support to the DE major projects function, covering sectors such as microgeneration, behind the meter solar and battery storage, electric vehicles.
- Drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, including joint venture agreements, power purchase agreements (PPAs) and energy services agreements.
- Advising the business on legal issues raised generally within the DE business.
- A comprehensive understanding of the legal and commercial issues that are pertinent to the distributed energy business, renewable energy or utilities sector, the SSE Group and the energy market.
- A broad experience of commercial matters (preferably in the utilities and/or energy sector) including drafting and leading negotiations on complex energy projects and associated commercial agreements.
- You should have a passion to work as part of a high performing team, sharing knowledge, best practice and supporting colleagues as well as being comfortable working independently and leading on your matters.
- A proactive and pragmatic approach to giving legal advice and support in a clear and concise manner and within timescales.
- Confidence and resilience in your approach to your work, legal skills and knowledge as well as being willing to take an active role in supporting more junior members of the team.
