Commercial Sales Manager

This presents an outstanding career opportunity for an ambitious Commercial Sales Manager, with a background in Engineering & precision machining, to join this well-established global business in Halesowen.

Reporting to the Sales Director and working closely with the Production Director and General Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in the commercial success of the business, by generating and converting high value business for complex engineering & manufacturing programmes.

You’ll be responsible for achieving the company’s commercial budget of £5M+, by generation and qualification of high value business propositions. As the Commercial Sales Manager you will need to be technically adept and a proven team manager, as you design and implement process improvements to increase the quality of estimates and business conversion rates.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead and manage the Sales & Estimating team (of 7) to achieve budgeted Sales targets of greater than £5.5M per annum
  • Design and deliver a roadmap for improvement in the company approach to estimating jobs and general processes, in order to improve estimate quality and commercial conversion
  • Produce and present reports for the Board
  • Identify development opportunities for the Sales & Estimating team members, providing coaching and ongoing support to improve the overall ability and output of the team
  • Implement and champion the use of a newly introduced ERP system (INFOR)
  • Key account management and customer relationship management
  • Forge strong relationships with key stakeholders, both internally and externally, including: Marketing, Production, Quality and Finance.
  • Work closely with the Marketing and Business Development Manager to execute campaigns across relevant industries in order to drive the company presence and generate business enquiries

What you’ll need:

  • Demonstrable experience of estimating and sales within a low volume, large scale Engineering environment (metals)
  • Proven experience of creating and delivering commercial strategy, achieving budgets of £5M+
  • Experience of managing and improving performance of a commercial sales (and estimating) function
  • Strong technical knowledge of manufacturing and machining
  • Experience of project management managing Engineering enquiries from initial quote through to product/service delivery and handover
