We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced individual to join the Commercial Property Team at our client;s Swindon office.

The person appointed will:

  • Be qualified as a Solicitor with post-qualification experience in the field of Commercial Property;
  • Be able to demonstrate detailed knowledge and technical expertise in dealing with a mixed Commercial Property caseload, with minimum supervision;
  • Be able to work independently but also with the other members in the Team;
  • Be able to generate their own referrals;
  • Help evolve a marketing strategy for the Commercial Property Team;
  • Be fully engaged with the firm’s marketing strategy and be prepared to attend marketing events in a post COVID-19 environment, produce marketing literature etc.
  • Be a valuable fee earner carrying out legal, technical & administrative work, under the direction of the Department Head as appropriate
  • Participate in designated marketing initiatives and be responsible for the delivery. To liaise with the Partners & other fee earners within the department, & assist with the organisation & management of the commercial property team.

Key responsibilities

Clients & Work

• To work as a Solicitor in support of the commercial property department, dealing with all matters, all leasehold transactions, freehold purchases and sales, business acquisitions and disposals and other property related issues within the appropriate risk category under supervision

• To service the needs of clients efficiently & to a high level

• Maintain a full comprehensive grasp of legislation and case law relevant to the department

Business Development

• To assist with the development of the commercial property work in the Wiltshire area.

• Identify & develop new business opportunities & maximise opportunities across the Firm

• Lead designated marketing & business development activities, including attending appropriate networking events virtually or in person as appropriate

•Provide seminars or talks, be it virtually or in person to organisations to promote the Commercial Property Department and the firm.

• Begin to develop sector specialism

People Management

• Take part & contribute to the organisation, development & management of the department as agreed with the Department Head

• To undertake personal training and development

• Delegate work where appropriate to junior fee earners and support staff

• Supervise workload of more junior fee earners where required

Business Performance:

Excellent financial management, including regular billing and collection of fees.

Appreciate the impact and contribution of the department on the overall business

Effective personal organisation and use of systems to deliver good client care and profitability

Strong IT skills including use of Microsoft Office, CRM and Document Management Packages

Department information: The Commercial Property team experience is comprehensive and includes landlord and tenant work, site acquisition and property development, secured lending and due diligence work, asset sales and acquisitions and advising on the opportunities offered by pension funding. Their Commercial Property team works in tandem with property experts in specialist areas including construction, agriculture and rural business, charities and property disputes. There are two Partners, one Senior Associate, one Solicitor and one Paralegal plus four members of a support team.

Essential Skills:

The appointed person must:

  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and clear technical ability.
  • Have excellent organisational skills;
  • Have a commercial and creative mindset;
  • Have a proven ability of working to deadlines;
  • Have good IT skills, preferably with experience on case management systems;
  • Have a track-record of producing effective marketing campaigns and relationship building to introduce new work into the department;
  • Have an ability to generate their own client base.
  • Be an effective communicator both with internal colleagues, team members and clients.
  • Deal with clients in a supportive and tactful manner in order to build strong relationships.
  • Possess excellent attention to detail, accuracy and organisational skills to deal effectively with their cases.

Salary and benefits:

The position is offered on a Full-Time basis. The appointed person will be based at their offices in Swindon. We are a friendly firm with a flexible approach.
