We have an exciting opportunity for a Commercial Director to join a friendly team in our Western Region.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • The overall management and performance of the Commercial function, from land acquisition through to final accounts, supporting all areas of the regional business with quality information and service;
  • Managing the surveying and buying function at various levels of expertise;
  • Setting the Commercial strategy for the delivery of the current 3 year and 5 year business plan;
  • Work closely with the Senior Management Team to ensure a flow of new sites into the business is established, to the required margins, and commencing operations as forecast;
  • Ensure opportunities to operate from existing sites are maximised;
  • Play an active role in the SHE strategy for the business unit
  • Promote H&S best practice and company safety objectives/ culture through personal actions, carrying out regular H&S site visits, prioritising safety at staff meetings and briefings, and adopting safe working practices where potential risks are identified and mitigated;
  • Monitor business costs, ensuring accuracy of cost reports and analysing variances, seeking opportunity to mitigate cost increases through innovation and alternative strategies, and attending internal adjudications and reviews to ensure cost issues are properly processed;
  • Manage cost information including tracking of inflation on pipeline developments;
  • Provide a Commercial overview of all land and build cost estimates including cost benchmarks, and prepare monthly Commercial board reports;
  • Ensure all matters within the Commercial Department are in accordance with current Standing Orders;
  • Regularly review departmental structure, roles and responsibilities;
  • Create Departmental targets toward meeting business objectives, and encourage a culture of improving upon targets, developing contingency plans, whilst maintaining open and honest feedback on performance of individual site strategies;
  • Support the progression and development of staff within the commercial department;
  • Ensure Departmental awareness of the medium-term business plan;
  • Remain visible and approachable, facilitating this for site teams with regular site visits;
  • Encourage multi-disciplinary project teams and teamwork ethos;
  • Ensure regular site-based meetings occur;
  • Liaise with internal and external legal companies where required;
  • Manage sub-contractors in line with company procedures;
  • Promote a customer responsible ethic within the supply chain;
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes, and ensure they are communicated throughout the team;
  • Ensure all audits, both internal and external, are complied with and the relevant support is available during the audit process.

About You

  • Experience in a role of a similar nature;
  • Have excellent man-management and strong leadership skills;
  • A team player with proven experience of managing and motivating staff;
  • An analytical, methodical approach to problem solving is required;
  • Excellent negotiating skills and ability to work within and motivate a team environment, whilst recognising the needs of other departments and individuals;
  • Have sound commercial awareness and able to accept accountability as well as responsibility.
