COMMERCIAL DIRECTOR / MANAGING DIRECTOR

King Executive is representing a fast-growing SME manufacturer of niche products in the search for a Commercial Director / Managing Director.

You’ll be a commercially driven, ambitious senior sales leader / director with sales and business development as your core discipline. You’ll be used to driving sales teams, pipeline / funnel management and in particular, will possess good knowledge and expertise within a new product development environment.

Working closely with the Owner / Managing Director of the business, you will manage further growth, deliver strategy and drive highly motivated teams across NPD, Sales, Operations, Quality & Production, Marketing, and Finance.

As your role will be crucial to our success and growth, we are expecting you to have an entrepreneurial mindset and serve as an example to the whole of the business.

This award-winning business designs, manufacturers, and exports a range of unique products using the latest in modern technology and production methods to over 40 countries globally. You will be responsible for the performance of the company, achieving results for the company’s overall strategy.

BASIC SALARY: £70,000 - £90,000 + Bonus Scheme

BENEFITS:Pension, 25 Days + Bank Holidays, Closed for Christmas.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Commercial Director / Managing Director

  • Planning, developing and implementing commercial strategies based on company goals and objectives with the main goal to support and accelerate growth.
  • As the Commercial Director / MD your core focus will be on driving and motivating the sales division and team.
  • You’ll be closely involved in New Product Development and understand how the whole new product lifecycle works and how to drive the ‘going to market’ from a sales perspective.
  • Working closely with the Owner / MD you will deliver strong sales and operational support and leadership.
  • Be commercially driven (whilst staying within the business values), and tasked with operating at optimum employee levels, costs, and productivity objectives.
  • Ensure inclusive and empowering leadership for NPD, Production & Quality, Finance, Sales, Marketing, and Operations – Team of 25
  • Analysing overall budget requests to identify areas in which reductions/increases can be made, and allocate operating budget
  • Maintaining a thorough understanding of all areas of the manufacturing operation to ensure operational efficiency and economy
  • Oversee overseas manufacturing, supply chain, and logistics
  • Representing the company to major customers and professional associations

ESSENTIAL:

  • Previous working experience as Commercial Director / Sales Director with strong aspirations and skillset to become Managing Director
  • Good ability to drive and implement strategic business plans
  • Your career will have ‘grown up’ via the business development/sales route and you’ll have strong credentials in strategic business development.
  • You’ll have solid experience leading sales/commercial teams including pipeline and funnel management
  • Having set up new routes to market you’ll have come from a new product development environment and understand what it takes to drive the success of new products
  • Hands-on experience in creating reporting and managing budgets
  • You’ll be an ambitious/entrepreneurial character with great gravitas and genuinely love driving teams to success
  • The ability to show humility, listen & learn about the business first
  • The strength to ’call out’ the pros and cons and where changes need to occur
  • Effective and competent management, leadership, and organisational skills
  • The courage to make difficult decisions when required
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills

DESIRABLE:

  • International experience in supply chain/logistics and/or manufacturing would be an advantage
  • Experience in working in SMEs and Owner-led businesses is highly desirable
  • MA in business administration, finance or similar relevant field
