Job Description Summary: The Product Marketing (PMM) team plays a central role in developing, positioning, and bringing our products and services to market. At PayPal, the PMM team works closely with product managers to provide the customer & market insights needed to build product strategies & roadmaps; and guide product development from conception to launch. When products & features are ready for launch, the PMM team provides the product positioning and market insights to develop GTM plans in the Sales, Marketing & Comms teams. In this role, the PMM is supporting a product in the very early stages of growth and therefore we are looking for a candidate who is able to support rapid testing, feedback, iteration & pivot in the product development process. You would need to be analytical and comfortable leading a data-driven approach to inform decision making and must be fully immersed in the European markets to successfully launch these products. You’ll be part of an agile, inclusive and open-minded, fun team – ready for an exciting ride.

Job Description:

Our Commerce services bring together our value proposition at the core of PayPal’s two-sided network. Most products & features in this portfolio are in “start-up” mode. The Commerce PMM Intern will support the European Commerce PMMs in working in an agile environment with the US-based product team – driving rapid and iterative launch, test & fail or scale working practices. The individual will support creating & upholding the clear messaging of PayPal’s value proposition to both merchant customers and consumers, connecting product development and go to market. The core responsibilities will include:


Inbound activities:

  • Help to provide input on market and regulatory dynamics and competitors, including killer use cases to solve for, grounded in local considerations. This critical information informs how Product Managers develop product strategy and go to market plans
  • Support in bringing competitor insight and customer research into the discussion with product teams
  • Provide feedback based on local market understanding on now customers engage with our products, existing products performance and improvement opportunities
  • Help build recommendations on potential value propositions and messages that will resonate in the market(s) and associated features/functionality


Outbound activities:

Learn about & support the following key areas;

  • Messaging and collateral that places the product in the context of the relevant segment-specific solution and the go to market strategy developed by the Product Manager
  • Capturing feedback from customers and other go to market functions on what is working in order to improve messaging, as well as to share with Product
  • Provide feedback based on local market understanding on now customers engage with our products, existing products performance and improvement opportunities
  • Recommend to Product Managers potential value propositions and messages that will resonate in the market(s) and associated features/functionality

Outbound activities:

  • Craft messaging and collateral that places the product in the context of the relevant segment-specific integration solution(s) and the go to market strategy developed by the Product Manager and verified by the Segment Owner
  • Ensure go to market functions (i.e., Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, Professional Services, Customer Support) are commercially ready, including understanding product functionality and messaging, as well as confirming that their respective plans are consistent with each other and the overall go to market strategy developed by the Product Manager and verified by the Segment Owner
  • Capture feedback from customers and other go to market functions on what is working in order to improve messaging, as well as to share with Product Managers (to improve the product) and other go to market functions (to improve the approach to marketing, selling and servicing)

Key Requirements

  • Energetic and positive, hungry to learn and challenge, creative, reliable, results focused with a can-do attitude

  • Interested in the operational, marketing, product and financial aspects of businesses in general

  • Strong in analytics and problem solving. Experienced/comfortable with data mining and analytical tools

  • Great communication skills and ability to work and collaborate cross-functionally with external and internal teams including Product, Marketing, Sales, Legal

  • Highly organized, attention to detail and follow-through. Should enjoy problem solving, fixing processes

  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills. Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and excellent in MS Excel

To Be Considered You Must

  • Currently studying or recently graduated in a Bachelors or Masters degree in engineering, business, marketing, economics or data science at leading University, or equivalent.

  • English fluency (other European languages are advantageous but not essential)

  • Be available for an 6-month internship starting in September 2021.
