About the Role

Midway Surgery, St Albans, is recruiting for a coding and summarising information officer, to join our friendly team who ensure that patient records are up-to-date and of a high standard. The role is offered on either a full-time or a part-time basis; we need a minimum of 22 hours per week, but are open to more hours.

The team receive daily clinical communications, which they scan and code into medical records ensuring that members of the clinical team are able to view and take action appropriately. In addition, new patient records are summarised to ensure the electronic record is accurate. Training will be provided according to practice protocols.

Main duties of the job:

  • Receive patient information and communication via various methods to include post, emails, electronic document management and any other as appropriate.
  • Scan, input and accurately code daily communications to record appropriate medical information in patient records. Ensure all information is recorded and coded in accordance with current guidance.
  • Prioritise and distribute appropriate patient information such as medical correspondence, Practice emails, patient medical forms, professional communications.
  • Ensure safeguarding issues or complaints are raised with the safeguarding lead or practice manager.
  • Manage incoming transfer of electronic/ paper records for new patients. Produce and maintain an accurate coded medical summary.
  • Accurately code and prioritise information to aid:
    • Patient consultations, referrals and prescribing.
    • Practice audit and targets.
    • Patient recall systems for screening, immunisations, chronic disease management and more.
  • Dependent on training, carry out data searches/audits checking accuracy of data input and coding.
  • Utilise a range of computer software to deliver the requirements of the post including EmisWeb, Docman and more. Training will be given.

About the Candidate

All applicants should have a basic knowledge of medical terminology, as a minimum, and some experience of data input and/or computerised record keeping.
