Job Title: CMM Setter (Co-ordinate Measuring Machine)

Location: Nasmyth House, Coventry Road, Exhall, Coventry CV7 9FT

Employment Type: Full-time / Permanent

Hours of Work: Monday to Wednesday: 18:30hrs - 6:30am

Our operation based in Coventry has an exciting opportunity for a CMM Setter where you will support the site with maintaining high standards of production on site. You will be joining a fantastic team who will guide you when needed, work closely with you on driving continuous improvement activities & support your continued learning & development.

Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager:

  • Operate CMM machine using established programs, as well as creating new programs using PCDMIS software.

Perform dimensional inspection on product using CMM, Verniers, micrometers and height gauges.

  • Perform visual and dimensional inspection on product per procedures.
  • Perform first off inspection and in-process inspections.
  • Maintain full traceability.
  • Ensure all First Article Inspection (FAI) packages are properly completed.
  • Must comply with all applicable safety requirements, policies and procedures, while maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly work environment. Must participate in required training, medical monitoring, safety, and health evaluations and programs.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in all designated areas of facility.
  • Perform all physical functions of position, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, walking, twisting, kneeling, turning and lifting of materials up to 35 lbs.
  • Meet established attendance standards.
  • Work overtime as needed.
  • Must report any work-related injury or illness immediately to your direct supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Machine Setup:

Set up and calibrate Coordinate Measuring Machines based on job requirements.

Load programs and fixtures for specific components to be measured.

Measurement Programming:

Develop and modify CMM measurement programs using appropriate software.

Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to create accurate measurement routines.

Component Inspection:

Operate the CMM to measure the dimensions and features of machined components.

Perform both manual and automatic inspections as needed.

Data Analysis:

Analyse measurement data and generate reports to ensure components meet specified tolerances.

Identify and document any non-conformities or deviations from the required standards.

Maintenance and Calibration:

Conduct routine maintenance and calibration of CMM equipment.

Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to the CMM operation.

Quality Assurance:

Collaborate with the quality control team to ensure that inspection processes and standards are maintained.

Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to quality control.

Documentation:

Maintain accurate records of inspection results and measurement data.

Document any adjustments made to the CMM programs or machine settings.

Health & Safety

  • You must take responsibility for your own and all staff safety & make sure where you work is safe and hazard free
  • Ensures accident and near miss forms are completed within 24 hours and completes investigations for all lost time incidents
  • Ensures risk assessments are completed and implements control measures where necessary
  • Applies and enforces Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental regulations and processes on a day to day basis
  • Provides positive health and safety attitude
  • You have a legal responsibility to work with Management to identify hazards and reduce risk as much as possible in the workplace

Qualifications:

  • background concerning the usage and care of precision measuring tools and equipment
  • Ability to effectively read and understand drawings, engineering documents, purchase orders, inspection manuals and procedures.
  • Strong background programming and operating coordinate measuring machines using PC-DMIS software.
  • Strong metrology, drawing reading, and GD&T interpretation skills.
  • Must be familiar with AS9102 Form and First Article Inspection (FAI).
  • Must have practical experience performing in-process and final inspections.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of related aerospace ISO and AS requirements.
  • Must have experience using various mechanical inspection tools, such as micrometers and verniers.
  • Maintain accuracy and attention to detail at all times and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of dimensional, visual and mechanical inspection processes.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out work instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Deal with issues involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Ability to work with little supervision and make intuitive decisions when general instruction is given.
  • Ability to work effectively with others in a team environment
  • Minimum 5 years of experience programming/ operating CMMs and performing inspection in Aerospace and/or Military/Defence Manufacturing environment
