Job OverviewThe post-holder carries out surveys of medical diagnostic radiology equipment across a range of both clinical and geographic locations. Examples of the medical equipment tested include general radiographic equipment, both digital and computed radiography, mobile fluoroscopic and dental machines. Surveys will be conducted both independently and working with other members of the Radiation Physics Section.The duties include:
  • Scheduling and performing test.
  • Analysis of results.
  • Creating reports with the use of Office applications (Word & Excel spreadsheets).
  • Performing practical tasks that supporting the delivery of the staff dose monitoring programme.
  • Participating in environmental shielding checks of radiation facilities.
Main duties of the jobWe are looking to recruit a highly self-motivated person to join our small, friendly team, based at Glan Clwyd Hospital, providing expert scientific and technical support to users of medical imaging equipment within North Wales, primarily, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.The post holder will play a key part in the sections responsibilities to provide radiation physics services. This post is primarily centred around testing of a wide range of sometimes complex equipment and analysing the results and providing reports to users, ensuring high quality is maintained.   • Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject
  • Knowledge of calibration and quality assurance of instrumentation
  • Computer literacy (word processing, spreadsheets, databases).
Desirable criteria
  • Formal Qualification in Physical Science
  • Radiation Protection principles and practice
  • Knowledge of diagnostic x-ray equipment operation, imaging modalities, inspection, radiation safety, quality assurance and patient dose measurements.
  • Knowledge of clinical applications of Medical Radiation equipment
Aptitude And AbilitiesEssential criteria
  • Capable of safe and precise handling of delicate and expensive equipment
  • Ability to resolve problems
Desirable criteria
  • Health care experience with direct patient contact working at degree level
