About us

UCL established the Institute of Health Informatics (IHI) in August 2014 in the Faculty of Population Health Sciences, and is now under the leadership of Professor Laura Shallcross. The Institute of Health Informatics is part of the UCL Faculty of Population Health Sciences, which is part of the School of Life and Medical Sciences.

Institute of Health Informatics conducts high quality data-intensive research to improve health at local, national and international levels and delivers one of the largest and most highly regarded teaching programmes in health informatics and health data science. It is home to one of four UKRI Centres for Doctoral Training in AI in Healthcare.

About the role

Institute of Health Informatics is looking to appoint a Clinical Research Fellow in Data Science to join our welcoming and vibrant Institute. The Clinical Research Fellow will be between an ST 3 to ST 5 in their training and the salary will be nodal point 4 - £55,329 plus £4,500 London Allowance on the Junior Dr Pay scale.

This position presents a unique opportunity to join a team of experienced health data scientists, informaticians, statisticians and clinical epidemiologists and contribute significantly to the statistical analysis and subsequent presentation of results from large scale national and rich local health record data resources. The Clinical Research Fellow will lead analyses of the Bioresource for Adult Infectious Diseases (BioAID) cohort study. The study seeks to improve the early diagnosis and prognostication of people with suspected infectious diseases attending emergency departments. The Clinical Research Fellow will be fully supported to develop their skills in data science, while contributing to peer-reviewed publications and national/international conference presentations. This is an ideal opportunity to develop your research skills and prepare a PhD Fellowship project application, under supervision.

About you

The Clinical Research Fellow will be medically qualified, with a track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals and must be GMC registered. You will have previous experience of working in at least one statistical programming language (e.g. R, Stata or Python) and will be able to extend these skills during the post.

The Clinical Research Fellow must have a medical degree as well excellent communication skills. The role holder will have experience in health research, ideally relating to infectious diseases.
