Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

This role has been running successfully for the past few years, and the vision behind creating such a role is to encourage the development of educationists, whilst continuing to develop one’s clinical career. The success of this role will depend largely on the individual taking the role up.

Clinical
  • Taking part in procedure lists in Glan Clwyd Hospital, Wrexham Maelor Hospital & Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital
  • Undertake a clinical research/audit project over the 12 month period
  • Develop databases/ resources that allow robust data collection in relation to respiratory procedures
  • Attendance at one lung cancer clinic and one lung cancer MDT per week in an educational capacity (i.e. not in relation to NHS service provision)

Education
  • Assumption of a mentoring role for the students.
  • Play a coordinating role for students who come to Glan Clwyd for 3 rd , 4 th and 5 th year placements.
  • Act as Educational Supervisor for year three medical students (following appropriate training)
  • Participation in the induction program for the students.
  • Generate teaching resources that can be utilised by the clinical school.
  • Deliver teaching in several areas on general medicine to students.
  • Contribute to the delivery of the C21 curriculum
  • Generate knowledge about various training opportunities within the hospital and channel these resources for the benefit of the students.
  • Register for and pursue a degree in medical education. The NWCS has kindly agreed to fund the degree
  • Work closely with the undergraduate tutor to evolve novel teaching methods and strategies to benefit the students.
  • As the position is a relatively new concept, any original ideas that the appointee may have can be incorporated in to the job plan. In other words, the post can be moulded to reflect the individual’s strengths.

Main duties of the job
  • Intensive exposure to respiratory clinical procedures to prepare a senior respiratory trainee to develop into a modern lung cancer clinician with a focus on gaining competence in Linear Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) and Medical Thoracoscopy. The post also offer exposure to Electro-navigational Bronchoscopy (ENB) and Radial EBUS
  • Ongoing development of teaching and training skills with a view to taking on an educational role in the future
  • To fulfil the requirements needed to achieve an educational qualification (Postgraduate certificate in Medical Education or higher)
  • To provide training to allow a trainee to attain level 2 competency in Thoracic Ultrasound
  • To provide an opportunity to undertake a clinical research project in the field of respiratory medicine
