Weston General Hospital is developing into a thriving hospital at the heart of the community. The Senior Clinical Fellow role is a newly created position as part of the Healthy Weston 2 programme which involves the development of safe, high-quality and sustainable emergency and planned care accessible to the local people.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and enthusiastic clinical fellow (ST3+) to join the Emergency Department based at Weston General Hospital, in Weston-super-Mare. You will have the opportunity to develop and grow, personally and professionally.MRCEM is essential for this role.

Weston General Hospital sees 50,000 – 60,000 patients per year. Our department is open 7 days per week from 0800 to 2200 hours. We are an enthusiastic team that is expanding and will result in a total of 12 Consultants, 15 Middle grades and 12 SHO’s (F2, GP trainees, Clinical Fellow ST1-2). We also have a highly experienced team of ENP’s working within the ED team. Our aim is to support successful applicants in their career choices, whether that is in gaining a training number or in gaining competencies that allow for a successful CESR application.

This role includes working out of hours and has incorporated paid time within its rota towards continuing professional development. This role forms part of the middle grade medical rota as an integral role within the department.

  • Providing direct clinical care to all patients
  • Formulate a diagnosis and develop a management strategy or plan for each patient
  • Provide patient management in accordance with Emergency Department protocols, practice standards and Trust policies
  • Provide clear and precise written and electronic documentation of patient care
  • Provide advice and support to junior doctors on all aspects of emergency medicine
  • Participate in the current shift rota pattern
  • Participate and lead on clinical audits
