Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be accountable to the Consultant Nephrologists. The individual’s main duties will include: assessing patients on the Nephrology ward, offering two general nephrology, peritoneal dialysis, transplant, and/or haemodialysis outpatient clinics per week, providing dialysis unit cover, renal ward cover, cover for new referrals, ordering investigations, making management plans, undertaking acute procedures as required, communicating with other teams regarding discharges and outliers, attending a monthly multidisciplinary team meeting, and facilitating smooth transfer of patients to community hospitals and tertiary centres. The appointee will also assist with supervising and teaching junior doctors.

He/she is also expected to have MRCP Part 1, as this is essential, a full MRCP is an advantage. The individual is expected to have experience in general medicine, prior Nephrology experience is desirable but not essential. He is expected to learn to put haemodialysis temporary lines and perm lines under supervision. Should have the aptitude to learn to perform renal biopsies. The applicant is expected to be an enthusiastic, flexible team member, who can work independently. Experience in computing would be desirable.

The successful candidate is expected to keep abreast of recent developments in the specialty.

There is a rostered shift system within the Medical Directorate at Ysbyty Gwynedd of 1:13 for unselected emergencies via the Acute Medical Assessment Unit (Gogarth Ward )

The Health Board has a Hospital at Night Service.

The appointee will also provide 1 weekend in 6 on call cover (Sat/Sun daytime), and subject to confirmation by Ysbyty Gwynedd, may contribute to further out of hours on call rotas.

Main duties of the job

This post is for a Clinical Fellow in the Nephrology department at Ysbyty Gwynedd. The appointee will be expected to support the Consultants in the department to provide a full nephrology service.

The successful applicant will join an enthusiastic department displaying a range of skills and services developed in recent years. He/she will be welcomed by those working in the department, with every encouragement to develop their own sub-specialty interests, innovations and research projects. The post-holder will work with the established staff, to establish a pre-eminent service with its own distinctive identity within the Department.
