We are looking to recruit a practitioner clinical psychologist to both

the community and inpatient (or a combination of both) Mental Health

Service for Older People. We can offer the post as a band 7 or a band

8a (see below for more details). We would also welcome applications

from trainee clinical psychologists who will graduate in 2021.

The Mental Health Services for Older People in Cardiff & Vale has recently undergone considerable expansion, growth and change, developing new multi-disciplinary models of working whilst creating new opportunities for staff to come and join us in this venture. Our work-force has recently greatly expanded and there is a wealth of support (both formal and informal), supervision, CPD opportunities and expertise available within our specialty. It is a very exciting time to join our team.

We are in the position to recruit Psychologists who already have the competence and experience relevant to an 8a position, or Psychologists (including trainees due to qualify in 2021) who meet the qualification, training and competence for a band 7 post. In the case of the latter, we are able to offer a professional knowledge and skills based development programme that will provide you with the opportunity to acquire the appropriate skills, competencies and development to enable your progression into the 8a role within an appropriate timescale. The expectation is that this progression will be achieved within a time frame of 12 – 18 months.

The successful post-holders will be responsible for helping to further develop and provide a practitioner psychology service to people who receive an inpatient service from the Cardiff and Vale Mental Health Service for Older People (MHSOP). You will work collaboratively and closely with your multi-disciplinary colleagues. The team you will be joining are very welcoming of a psychological approach, and creative and collaborative working is highly valued. The role will provide you with wide ranging experiences, supporting and enabling your professional development across community mental health settings. The role includes providing direct psychological assessments and interventions, cognitive and neuropsychological assessments, staff and multi-disciplinary consultation and supervision, innovation, service/systems improvement work, staff skills training, research and audit, team reformulations.

You will be joining a well-established and highly motivated Older Adult Speciality for psychology services, working closely with other practitioner psychologists. The Older Adult speciality provides services into a number of physical and mental health settings, including Stroke services, Young Onset Dementia Services, Mental Health Services for Older People, , Dementia services and a memory team, Liaison Services and Medical Rehabilitation. The Speciality is part of a large and progressive Health Board Wide Directorate of Psychology and Psychological Therapies. We encourage and support Continued Professional Development and offer excellent opportunities for professional development, consultation and supervision. We actively encourage post qualification training in highly specialist psychological therapeutic interventions.

Full clinical and management professional support and supervision will be available from within the specialty and we support and encourage research and audit opportunities

Newly qualified practitioner psychologists who will be qualifying and achieving HCPC status on qualification in 2021 are invited to apply for the post. Successful applicants will remain on a band 6 banding until confirmation that they have met the requirements for Doctorate status and HCPC registration is received. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post.
