Summary

Job description

As our new Chief Scientific Research and Innovation Officer you will have an integral role in enabling the MHRA to remain as the most reputable global force in medicines and devices regulation, developing new and improved partnerships within and external to the UK following EU Exit.

As a core member of our new Executive Committee, you will help deliver our ambitious change programme to improve patient health through the development of the Agency’s scientific business units to drive development of the world-leading science and innovation offer. In addition, you will enable the development and delivery of a ground-breaking regulatory science strategy which takes the Agency into new territory, able to compete successfully with other regulators around the globe.

Salary: Up to £120k

Location: Canary Wharf, London or South Mimms, Hertfordshire.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Chief Executive and Executive colleagues in the Executive Leadership Team to lead the Agency as the organisation to deliver for public health through excellence in science in the UK and beyond

  • Providing effective scientific leadership to all MHRA teams, acting as a role model for our people and ensuring the development of a culture and core values which enable the MHRA to continuously improve and innovate.

  • Support the chief executive and the executive directors to manage the Agency on a day to day basis, including ongoing development of relationships and services with Government, Public Health partners and with patients.

  • Working closely with the Executive team to ensure the effective development and maintenance of corporate policy developmentkeeping abreast of plans across the MHRA and ensuring a comprehensive knowledge of its needs.

  • Representing the MHRA, supporting and promoting its activities and acting as a ‘champion’ of any corporate initiatives, often taking a lead role on these.

  • Ensure compliance with the statutory responsibilities for which the scientific business unit is responsible.

  • Responsible, with other executive directors, for the achievement of performance, quality and financial standards and for the provision of high standards of regulatory activity and patient safety.

  • Ensuring effective corporate management of resources, (people, organisation, structures and management systems), regularly reviewing and re-prioritising these to ensure effective utilisation.

  • Demonstrating good financial management, accountable for financial performance of your business units and seeking value for money in all the Agency’s operations, creating a culture in which all staff do the same

  • Contribute towards the continued corporate development of the Agency, including acting in line with the Agency’s values, and supporting the development of the culture to foster collaborative working across all staff groups, support an inclusive and diverse culture and a positive highperformance ethos

  • Take ownership of and ensure compliance with the Agency’s governance framework, promoting good governance throughout your interactions across the Agency
