Job Description

Are you an innovative, people-oriented leader, with vision and ambition?

Following the promotion of our previous Chief Officer Regulatory and Regeneration to Chief Executive, we now have an opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our team.

At West Dunbartonshire Council, we are extremely ambitious and always strive for excellence. In recent years have undertaken a range of bold and exciting projects, with many more planned which will continue to revitalise our area. We have transformed the waterfront at Clydebank, developed our pioneering District Heating Network and Energy Centre, and launched our award winning offices in Dumbarton as part of our ongoing commitment to regenerating our town centres.

Recognised by Audit Scotland as an organisation with strong strategic leadership, we have a reputation for ground-breaking and award winning flexible ways of working. We are now seeking an equally dynamic and ambitious addition to our senior leadership team.

As our new Chief Officer, you will be enthusiastic, ambitious and full of ideas to contribute to achieving our vision for West Dunbartonshire, ready to make a real positive difference to our communities and residents by improving their quality of life.

This is a critical role (detailed profile attached), working within an agile leadership framework, supporting the implementation of creative and innovative strategies, policies and leading edge practice. While the role currently includes the statutory Monitoring Officer responsibility, for the right candidate, this can be flexed to accommodate different professional disciplines.

The post-holder is responsible for the strategic leadership of Regulatory functions such as Legal, Licensing, Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Planning and Building Control, Democratic Services, Registration, Elections and Records Management and Data Protection. On the Regeneration side, the role has responsibility for Regeneration and Business Development including Energy Compliance.

If you have a proven track record of success within a complex, multi-agency and political environment, and will embrace our people centred, value based approach to leadership, we want to hear from you.

Requirements

The preferred applicant will be required to complete a Standard Disclosure check prior to a formal offer being made by West Dunbartonshire Council.
