Age UK Isle of Wight have been in existence since 1973. The charity is a brand partner of Age UK National, and is respected as an influential, trusted, local charity that provides a voice for older residents and equally is a community supplier of quality services. Almost 30% of adults on the Island are aged over 65, one of the highest elderly demographics in the UK, and a figure projected to increase through our popularity as a retirement location. In 2019/20 the charities turnover was £2.5m. Age UK Isle of Wight is contracted by local authority and the NHS to support and deliver a coordinated, person-centered health and social care approach to independence, well-being and hospital discharge. Through personal services and solutions, Age UK Isle of Wight enables individuals and families to live independently at home. The challenge for a new CEO will be the identification and development of innovative, sustainable ways to best help and encourage older residents to re-engage with their community post Covid-19. The CEO will lead a team of talented, committed, enthusiastic staff and volunteers as well as lead Trustees, themselves Island residents, in the development of a strategy that takes us forward over the next five years and beyond. Specific knowledge and skills Able to demonstrate excellent understanding of the voluntary, social and public sector and the environment in which charities work. Experience of identifying and effectively managing risks to the work of the Charity, its staff and volunteers. Experience and good understanding of charity company law, governance and quality issues as they affect the sector and the role of Trustees. Experienced in performance management of both people and processes. Understanding and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion issues. Able to demonstrate commitment to the highest standards of Health and Safety and in doing so provide a safe place of work for staff and volunteers. Able to demonstrate a good knowledge of current legislation relating to the sector and to the employment of staff and volunteers. Able to demonstrate strong problem solving, planning and organisational skills. Understanding the role of the Board of Trustees. See Candidate Pack for the full person specification.
