Located on an attractive campus close to Huddersfield town centre, adjacent to the picturesque Greenhead Park and an easy commute from much of the North West and Yorkshire, Greenhead College has been providing the highest quality academic Sixth Form College education in the area for 40 years.

Greenhead College is an outstandingly successful Sixth Form College with 2,600 16-19 year old students following advanced level courses. The College has a long history of exceptional examination results and sits near the top of the national sixth-form college performance tables, meaning it is one of the very best in the country.

The College has a fantastic opportunity for a Chemistry Technician to join the Chemistry department.

The successful post holder will:

  • Support the senior technician in maintaining high quality of technician services to the Chemistry department.
  • Support the curriculum by ensuring that the needs of the teaching staff in the department are met.
  • Prepare equipment, chemicals and materials for classrooms, paying particular attention to the safe use and handling of same.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and serviceability of such apparatus and equipment and the tidiness of laboratories and preparation rooms.
  • Assist teaching staff in demonstrations and experiments as required.
  • Set up apparatus for special demonstrations to classes and liaison events.
  • Undertake regular testing and maintenance of equipment and chemicals.
  • Assist with the receipt of all deliveries, checking against delivery notes and checking all discrepancies.
  • Assist with the maintenance of a computerised inventory of materials, chemicals, equipment and associated stock taking duties.
  • Assist with filing and the photocopying of worksheets.
  • Undertake further relevant training as appropriate.
  • Assisting staff to ensure the health and safety of all students in the classroom.
  • Be aware of relevant health and safety legislation, to implement that legislation in respect of the storage and use of apparatus and materials within the department, and to advise the Senior Technician and colleagues within the department on matters relating to health and safety in lessons.
  • Any other duties as may be reasonably requested by the line manager to allow for the efficient running of the college without changing the general character or level of responsibility entailed eg petty cash purchases.
