Thermo Fisher Scientific is offering you an exciting opportunity to use your manufacturing knowledge and experience to produce products that enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. As a Chemical Plant Operator, working within a Chemical Manufacturing Team specialising in Distillation and Blending, you will play a major role in delivering chemicals to Pharma, Academia and other Industrial sectors. Reporting to the Plant Team Leaders, you will:

What will you do?

  • Ensure that all work is carried out in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with legislation and company procedures.
  • After training, carry out chemical manufacture, using automated and manual chemical reactors in a fast-paced chemical processing environment
  • Participate in daily briefings
  • Assemble, competently use and dissemble plant equipment
  • Monitor reaction progress using analytical techniques and take corrective actions to produce the batch within specification
  • Take personal ownership of quality of work; complete documentation accurately
  • Carry out calibrations, daily and weekly checks of work area; start-up and shutdown procedures
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the Plant and Equipment
  • Use MRP and web-based systems for retrieving and recording information
  • Take personal responsibility your own metrics
  • Participate in risk assessments and reviews
  • Be prepared to move between manufacturing areas, depending on resource requirements
  • Embrace and participate in improvement projects (Practical Process Improvement)

How will you get here?

Education/Competence

  • Manufacturing Operator experience desirable but not essential as training will be provided
  • Minimum 5 GCSE grades A*-C (or equivalent) including Maths, English and a Science
  • A’Level in Science subject or equivalent, advantageous
  • Computer literate (word, excel, and web-based systems)

Experience/Skills and Abilities

  • Desire to work in a technical but hands-on role
  • Demonstrates self-motivated, proactive and enthusiastic approach
  • Display ambition and attributes to progress within the business
  • Must be able to work on own initiative but also able to be part of the team
  • Able to communicate clearly on both written and verbal basis
  • Some prior experience of handling chemicals and advantage
  • Have excellent attention to detail
  • Good organisational and time keeping skills
  • Willing to work variable shifts if required. Currently only day shift required, but shift pattern is subject to change as the business grows.
  • Role requires FLT usage (full training provided)
Working hours:
  • 42 hours a week, 11 hours a day, 4 days a week
