The team

As a member of the Shop and space planning workshop, you will be supporting a team of designers, project managers and all internal support teams with various carpentry and joinery tasks ranging from anchor / large shop furniture production and installation, supporting a variety of shop requests & maintenance, new concept development, technical advice and everything in between.

We have recently completed a refit of our flagship Oxford Street store and are currently working on a rollout of a new design concept across our core shops as well as lots of other exciting projects on the horizon.


Overview

We are looking for a passionate individual with great hands-on experience, good dexterity and an eye for detail. The ideal candidate will have a good knowledge of furniture & construction techniques. The role will entail working in a diverse setting to produce steady and functional infratruce and products. It is an exciting time to be joining the team, with a relocation planned in the summer to a new purpose-built 500sm workshop.

The carpenter will be based in our friendly, well equipped Poole workshop where experience in working with a variety of materials including sheet materials, solid timbers, metal, plastics, acrylic and solid surface would be essential Experience in spray finishing is great but not essential as training & development can be provided where needed.

You would be competent and confident in the operation and maintenance of all general workshop machinery, with the ability to complete projects alone or as part of a team. You won’t be afraid to take initiative and contribute to process improvement within the workshop.

You will be able to manage challenging conversations, maintain relationships throughout the business and know when to raise something to the appropriate teams or individuals.

Within the ever-changing world of work, it is essential that workshop roles are multi-skilled and dynamic in their approach. Though they often have a predominant focus (R&D, carpentry, drawings) their skillset is broad and transferable making them an asset to any team that they are collaborating with.

Skill sharing is essential within this role and the wider team.

Skills and experience
  • 3 year + experience in carpentry and furniture making
  • Hands on experience in working with a variety of materials
  • Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction
  • Proficient in the use of electrical and manual equipment and measuring tools
  • Ability to read technical drawings and documents
  • Willingness to follow safety guidelines at all times
  • This role will require travel as and when required, flexibility is key.
  • Full clean UK driving licence is essential.
  • Basic understanding of technology and computer skills, and a huge enthusiasm for learning, sharing and self development
  • Happy to work outside of your comfort zone and able to take risks within reason
  • Taking a holistic approach to the business, with the ability to adapt to change in these uncertain challenging times
  • Strong ability to self manage and see the bigger picture taking ownership of your role and responsibilities within the team
