Plastics: With new technology trends, our plastic additives can be experienced in many everyday items including vinyl, blow-molding bottles, film, rigid containers, PVC plastics, siding, decks and rails, foam pipes and profile formulations, window frames and high-efficiency lubricants.
Industrial intermediates: As the product of a reaction that is beneficial when used as a precursor chemical for another product, industrial intermediates can take on many shapes and forms. Ours are used in home comfort and appliance, building and construction, adhesives and lubricants, and more.

Coatings: Whether it’s a water-based coating or solvent-based coating, a thin film is deposited on materials to enhance specific properties such as enhanced performance, durability, aesthetics, and sustainability.

Currently we are looking to hire Chemical Engineering Placement Students to join us in Barry, UK, from July 2024 to July 2025 as part of your degree’s Industrial Placement.

The Placement Students will be located at our Dow Silicones Barry Site in South Wales, which is one of the largest and most complex silicones sites in the world. Barry is situated less than 10 miles from Cardiff city center, which is home to Europe’s largest waterfront development and combines the practical advantages of a small, friendly city with the cultural and recreational amenities of a successful modern capital.
During your student placement you will have the opportunity to join a team of global problem solvers impacting everything from automotive to cosmetics industries.

The Student Placements we offer are listed below:

Chemical Engineer Manufacturing placement
As a Manufacturing placement student, you will work as a member of the operations team which directly supports production plant operations and will be involved in a range of projects and activities.
These activities will include day to day production support tasks which may involve creating operating procedures or performance monitoring tools, and later in your placement you may be able to provide back-up support for our production engineers.
You will also scope and execute some small process improvement projects and may have an opportunity to support much larger capital upgrade projects as a team member.
This placement will give you an excellent practical grounding in Chemical Engineering as it is applied in industry, whilst delivering value to the company by executing much needed project and upgrade work.

Process Design Engineering placement
As a Process Design Engineering placement student, you will be aligned to our Technical Expertise & Support (TES) department, which provides maintenance, process improvements, and project execution support to the production plants.
To enable the TES team to meet its business plan and customer needs you will assist TES Process Design Engineers in administration tasks, process design tasks and creation of work packs.
During your internship you will carry out process design calculations and support the Barry TES Process Design Engineers where required.
You will also learn about the process workflow to partner with Dow CEC India and will put chemical engineering principles into practice.

Chemical Engineer Environmental placement
As an Environmental placement student, you will work as a member of the EHS team supporting plant operations, legal compliance and waste management activities.
You will be involved in a range of activities to support compliance and EHS strategic improvement goals, as well having an opportunity to be involved in some process improvement projects.
This placement will give you an excellent practical grounding in Chemical Engineering (primarily with an Environmental bias) as it is applied in industry, whilst delivering value to the company by executing much needed compliance activities, as well as project upgrade work.

Requirement:
  • You are currently studying for a master’s degree in chemical engineering including an industrial placement year.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork will be necessary as you will work with multiple departments during your placement.
