About The Communications Directorate

HMRC Communications Directorate delivers targeted communications campaigns to promote our products and services, including tax credits renewals, Self-Assessments and other campaigns aimed at raising awareness of our actions to tackle tax evasion and avoidance or to promote new ways of dealing with tax, such as through online personal tax accounts.

We are currently setting up a new Campaigns Team to drive greater campaigns integration and make better use of all our communications channels to amplify the reach and impact of our campaigns. The new Campaigns Team will collaborate with colleagues across the Communications Directorate to plan, deliver and evaluate end-to-end communications campaigns which help HMRCs customers, deliver our brand and contribute to HMRCs vision of being a trusted and modern tax and customs department. The new team will also make sure HMRCs campaigns form a key part of broader cross government efforts by working closely with other departments targeting the same audiences to ensure simple, clear messages without duplication or saturation.

Job Description

This is an exciting time to join HMRCs Communications Directorate. These are new roles within a new Campaigns team and will require flexibility and collaboration to test and embed new ways of working.

We are looking for up to 2 Campaigns Team Project Managers who will each be responsible for end-to-end campaigns delivery, owning the campaigns plan and developing content, with support from specialists across the communications directorate who will contribute to campaign design and content delivery. Campaigns Project Managers will report to Campaigns Team Leaders.

The purpose of these roles is to create a new Campaigns Team that will allow us to deliver a sharper end-to-end campaigns process, bringing to life new ways working; driving greater collaboration across the Directorate; and achieving greater impact for our campaigns, as outlined in HMRCs Year One Communications Plan.

Key Responsibilities

Supporting the new Campaigns Team Lead to embed new ways or working within the wider Communications Directorate.

Working with communications Business Partners to understand business priorities and how campaigns can help deliver business objectives.

Project managing key campaigns from end-to-end, working with colleagues across Comms Directorate to co-ordinate a collaborative approach and owning project delivery, on time and to budget.

Being creative in your approach to campaigns delivery and anticipating and solving potential issues.

Delivering excellent campaigns content and/or drawing on specialists across the Communications Directorate to achieve excellent campaigns content.

Prioritising the demands of different campaigns and being mindful of colleagues priorities to achieve delivery to time-scales and budgets.

Acting as an ambassador for HMRCs brand and bringing our brand to life through our campaigns.

Essential Criteria

Excellent understanding of and passion for integrated campaigns delivery.

External communications experience with a track record of success in delivering impactful communications campaigns across multiple channels.

Experience of successfully managing complex projects.

Experience of developing excellent campaigns content and working with internal and external agencies/experts to build campaigns content.

Strong interpersonal skills, and proven ability to persuade and influence stakeholders.

Experience of working across team boundaries to deliver collaboratively.

Excellent presentation, written and drafting skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Strong skills in communications campaigns evaluation.

Team members that are moving offices as a result of the Locations Programme will be entitled to a Moves Adjustment Payment for three years where they incur additional costs. This is calculated based on the difference between the costs of travelling to and from the new and old office, over a weekly period.
