As a Specialist Nurse in the community you will be responsible for providing full assessments, formulation and evidence based interventions to children, young people and their families, who are experiencing mental health difficulties. In order to achieve such ambitious goals we recognise the importance of supporting all our staff in building and feeling a part of a healthy, well-functioning team and service. We appreciate we are striving for cutting edge assessment and treatment within a highly emotive and distressing environment.

It is our intention to embed reflective practice, continual learning and clinical supervision into the essence of the service. We hope to offer a bespoke and rolling training package to all staff and would like to invest in our teams sense of mastery. It is an exciting time to be joining Cornwall CAMHS as there has been large scale investment in the local services and teams are going from strength to strength. Cornwall is also leading the way on a ground-breaking Clinical Associate Psychology (CAP) service, the first of its kind anywhere in England and Wales.

Main duties of the job

We are excited to be able to go out to advert for a clinical nurse specialist to join our expanding CAMHS community team. This is a new role to our current team which is being introduced to allow for nursing career development and enhanced nursing practice within the core CAMHS service.

You will be a key core practitioner within the Children and Young Peoples mental health service using leadership skills to support and develop service delivery

You will be innovative and facilitate evidence-based practice delivery for children, young people and their families across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

To develop clinical practice by leading and developing multi-disciplinary team working across the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Health and Social Care Community.

You will be responsible for maintaining an individual caseload, using your specialist skills, from referral to discharge, conducting routine and high priority assessments and interventions as appropriate and exercising autonomy.

You will be liaising and providing advice, information and consultation to colleagues and other agencies as well as undertaking service governance activity, including research and audit as appropriate.

Person specification

Education and Training

Essential criteria
  • Current Professional Registration with the NMC/HCPC
  • Professional qualification – RMN, RNC
  • Post graduate qualification to Master’s level in relevant clinical specialism or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • None medical prescribing qualification

Experiance

Essential criteria
  • Substantial experience working within Mental Health
  • Evidence of training and experience in the delivery of evidenced – based interventions for children, young people and their families
  • Extensive experience of working with children and adolescents with mental health or emotional difficulties
  • Experience and confident in the delivery of presentation and training delivery in own specialist area
  • Experience in supervising others.
Desirable criteria
  • Qualification in teaching and assessing learners – desirable.
