SeniorSoftware Engineer (C# or VB.net)

Lumentum has an opportunity for an experienced Senior Software Development Engineerto join our Product R&D team to support the development and maintenance of automated software solutions for the assembly of optoelectronics components . The role is based in from our Towcester, Northamptonshire offices.

Job Description

Perform software development to automate optical aligner kits and other process equipment used for the assembly of next-generation optoelectronics components.

The Senior successful candidate for this role will develop software automation solutions for innovative alignment processes for next generation optical sub-assemblies components.

Working closely with the process engineering and hardware engineering teams the role consists in architecting and authoring the software side of the process in order to control devices and instrumentation for the assembly of high-speed photonics components in both an R&D and manufacturing environment. Additionally, it is required to take care of the integration of measurements and other in-process metrology to database.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, commission, document and maintain automated software (test kits) solution for photonics complex OSAs (gold-boxes) integrating optoelectronic chips (lasers, modulators, detectors, PICs etc.) and components (lens, optical splitters, fibres, etc), with electronics and optics intended for high-speed fibre-optics transmission systems.
  • The focus is on the software development (almost entirely C#) required to characterize, screen and calibrate the OSAs – implement tests in accordance to a specification and generate calibration data to feed-forward to subsequent manufacturing stages. Write and Debug Test Scripts and S/W on various platforms (C#)
  • The job requires interfacing with process R&D, gold box design and manufacturing teams to develop alignment solutions that suits the initial demands and at the same time can be deployed in a production environment where operation reliability and volume are critical.
  • Create solutions that both meet the quality criteria (Specification, Repeatability, and Accuracy) and maximize capital efficiency.
  • The position is in the Software Test Development Team but it requires close interaction with the Hardware Test Development Team which provides the custom electronics and mechanical hardware which is deployed into the test systems (in addition to off-the-shelf test instrumentation).
  • This is test engineering role rather than pure software development, .tThere is a need to have prior general electronics knowledge and to be able to read electronics schematics. The prior understanding of optoelectronic devices would be advantageous but can be learned on the job. This is test engineering role rather than pure software development.
  • Focused on OSA, occasionally it may be required to develop test for other manufacturing test stages.
  • Drive improvements to existing test systems/processes using Kaizen methodologies.
  • Part of the job role will be in a cleanroom environment. Manufacturing is worldwide and travelling will be required from time to time.
Education
  • Bachelor /Master’s Degree (B.Eng/M.Eng) in Engineering (electronics, Physics , Computer Science) or a related discipline with some solid software foundation content
Required Experience
  • Testing of electronics components/systems
  • Debugging of software and electronics
  • Experience in software automation of test instrumentation
  • Experience in C# text based programming languages.
