Blackfriars Bakery is looking for a self-motivated and ambitious Buyer to manage and direct the purchasing and stock levels of all raw material goods the company needs (including ingredients and packaging) and ensure we ‘buy better’ at all times. Based in South Wigston, Leicester. Great opportunity for either an experienced Buyer or someone looking to take the next step from assistant as a Buyer within a private limited family-owned Food Manufacturing environment. You will take full ownership and responsibility for stock buying and control.

Trading since 1988, Blackfriars specialises in ambient, long shelf-life, individually wrapped high quality bakery snack products. Known for providing an excellent service, developing their employees to the same high standards. The successful Buyer will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Lead and manage sourcing, procurement, purchasing and inventory control for the business. Maintain the supplier and raw material databases.
  • Managing and liaising with suppliers for regular meetings, preparing forecasts, contracts and competitive benchmarking.
  • Place all purchase orders as required and track their progress.
  • Ensure that all stockholdings of raw materials and traded goods are controlled and managed in line with business requirements.
  • Preparing weekly and monthly procurement reports for the business.
  • Work closely with the production manager, technical and quality manager and product development manager adhering to BRCGS standards.
  • Attending annual food exhibitions, food innovation events.
  • Ensuring recipe checks are correct against the business internal software when needed.
  • Manage and review aging stock checks, shelf-life extensions, and concessions direct with suppliers.
  • Raw material and finished product specification reviews.
  • Ensure supplier approval, e.g., third-party certification (RSPO certificates), self-audit questionnaires, CofC and specifications is being carried out and managed by the technical team.
  • Identify and negotiate cost savings through supplier relationship management, and monitor changes in market conditions affecting supply and demand to ensure that costs are minimised.
  • Check production paperwork to ensure correct raw material usage has been recorded on the records and stock control system.
  • Checking packaging labels and film on delivery against the finished product specifications.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a buyer or procurement role
  • Strong knowledge of supply chain management principles and practices
  • Excellent negotiation skills to secure favourable terms and pricing from suppliers
  • Ability to analyse data and make data-driven decisions
  • Familiarity with logistics and transportation processes

The role requires a confident, direct and motivated buyer with appropriate analytical skills, good communication skills both face to face and in writing, experience of challenging the norm and who is willing to make changes to drive the business forward. Experience in the food industry is preferred but not essential.

Additional information:Working week is Monday to Friday with flexibility required.
