Role And Responsibilities

CAE (UK) plc has a fantastic opportunity for a Business Development & Sales Manager to join our Marketing & Sales team.

The key purpose of the role is to identify, pursue and convert profitable business opportunities into order intake within the CAE Defence and Security Division’s (D&S) domain. The role will include securing Research & Development (R&D) business opportunities and engaging with R&D agencies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • To understand the market in which the CAE D&S Division conducts its business, remaining close to the end user, the various MOD procurement agencies and the relevant R&D agencies (DASA, Dstl, JHub, Navy X, Defence Centre for Artificial Intelligence, etc.).
  • Whilst the jobholder will be responsible for ‘mainstream’ business development opportunities, they will also be required to pursue and covert R&D opportunities.
  • To ensure that opportunities are identified at the earliest stage to facilitate initial marketing and positioning, and to conduct a competitor analysis to determine CAE’s competitive advantage, in order to grow CAE UK presence in the UK & Nordics D&S market and the R&D arena.
  • Lead a cross-domain team to define and design innovative proposals that are aligned with both CAE’s and our customer’s strategic visions.
  • To seek opportunities to accelerate further CAEs evolution from a leading synthetic training technology supplier to a company at the forefront of delivering digitally immersive training solutions, and mission support solutions across multi-domain operations.
  • To generate a budget for approval by the Senior Management to pursue the identified opportunities which require external and/or internal resources.
  • To actively network with the customer in order to establish, build and maintain relationships.
  • To present a pipeline to Senior Management, which highlights the value of opportunities, potential partners, technology requirements and the CAE discriminators.
  • To identify prospective partners that reduce project risks, increase bid discriminators and improve the overall win probability.
  • To adhere to the corporate governance procedure, including the CAE ‘Lead to Award’ process.
  • To perform capture management activities for identified opportunities.
  • To identify and manage the bid team within the agreed budget to meet timescales and Company profitability targets whilst delivering a winning bid.
  • To be responsible for concluding final pricing and terms and conditions in conjunction with the Senior Management.
  • To transfer accountability for project execution to the Programme/Project Manager on completion of the internal contract review.
  • Any other duties as may be required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Essential:
  • Experience of developing a strategy to build a medium-term and long-term opportunity pipeline, to include R&D opportunities, and engagement with key stakeholders to include end users, MOD procurement agencies and UK R&D agencies.
  • Knowledge of the UK Government Defence sales environment and UK R&D agencies.
  • Good communication, interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Good understanding of the key technologies and R&D related engineering activities.
  • Understanding of key technological trends i.e. data analytics, AI.
  • Team leadership skills.
  • Self-driven and proactive.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to prioritise opportunities and workloads.
  • Wide knowledge of the Defence Industry and competitor capabilities.
  • Strong stakeholder network within Defence & Security.
  • Ability to help shape and define the customer requirement.

Desirable:
  • Engineering or Business Administration degree.
  • Thorough sales and marketing experience within a project environment.
  • Experience of managing the bid process.
  • Sound commercial knowledge and experience.
  • Proposal writing, structuring and assessment.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
  • Applicants must have the right to live and work in the UK.
  • The role involves travel within the UK and occasionally overseas, which could be at short notice.
  • The achievement of deadlines may require overtime and weekend working.
  • Must be able to obtain or transfer Security Clearance which the Company sponsors (applicants must have lived continuously in the UK for the past 5 years in order to obtain security clearance) or currently holds NATO SC level Security Clearance that can be transferred from overseas to the UK.
