The role requires a highly motivated, high functioning, high achieving individual reporting to the Director of BD & Strategy to take responsibility for leading Business Development activities spanning the entire Actuation Systems business portfolio.Principal Accountabilities:The successful candidate will have accountability in conjunction with key Value Stream & functional partners for overseeing all business development activities and processes including but not limited to campaign planning, competitive analysis, price to win activities, contact planning, market shaping/influencing, market requirements input into new product development and capture planning.Also core to the position is providing functional leadership to the BD function ensuring best practice is not only captured and deployed but importantly that all facets of the function are effectively partnering with key members of the IPT to foster a high performing team environment driving sustained growth.The successful candidate will have core competencies covering a wide range of skills including:
  • Has an established network of key contacts, influencers and decision makers within MOD/government customers, commercial customers and competitors in order to achieve strategic alignment and position Actuation to best achieve its objectives both long and short term. Nurtures and develops this network continually to ensure the business possesses the right affinities to drive fulfilment of its objectives
  • Emotionally intelligent and customer first orientated individual with a track record of interpreting the customers needs both explicit and implicit to ensure internal technology road map aligns with the customer expectations
  • Highly structured individual who continuously evaluates key levers necessary to improve P Win, P Go to ensure that the business is successful in converting key strategic pursuits into customer orders to support sustained growth, including the Best of Actuation competitive advantage approach for all bids and utilizing Collins Business Acquisition Process (CBAP) for all strategic pursuits.
  • Ensures timely and accurate pursuit and order forecasting for all segments of the business
  • Partners with the IPT on new development activities ensuring timely and fully compliant execution of milestones and objectives as required by the Collins Management System (CMS) operating system ensuring the customer receives winning proposals while ensuring all internal requirements are satisfied. Responsible for defining and delivering best practice for writing and submitting bid documents as a centralized support process.
  • Maintains alignment with Collins Customer Account Management Organization to ensure actuation strategies are aligned with Collins platform and customer strategies including reviewing and approving gate 1 presentations for strategic alignment
  • Lead, recruit, develop and inspire a high performing BD team organized into defined territories for both existing a new customers for existing and emerging markets.
  • Collaborating with ASA BD team to benefit from synergies.
  • Lead the development of robust routines and processes that enable the delivery of monthly, quarterly and annual Business Development targets.
  • Support the development of the long-range Plan and annual business plan ensuring that BD objectives translate clearly into the delivery of financial KBI’s across all channels.
  • Provide ad-hoc support as necessary to the BD, Strategy, CAM and Contracts Leadership Team to ensure the plan is delivered and new initiatives are being developed through proactive and reactive financial insights.
  • Lead with collaboration, ensuring the team is future focused and fact/insight driven, focused on personal development and the LDR process.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, economics, finance or related field
  • At least 15 years of overall business experience with a minimum of 10 years of experience delivering Business and strategy development and/or strategic planning at a similar Aerospace Engineering/Manufacturing company.
  • Proven track record of creating a winning environment where BD teams develop the essential hard and soft skills required to deliver the strategy through new business opportunity conversion ultimately driving sustained business growth.
  • Excellent understanding of what it takes to execute business effectively across the product lifecycle. Deploys this acumen to ensure secured business can be robustly delivered long after the pursuit phase has ended to ensure business goals are achieved
