Become part of the Team; PA’s Professional Services Team works across the defence, infrastructure, transport and public services sectors taking on client-facing roles on long-term assignments and working alongside consultancy teams. We specialise in Project Controls, Business Cases, Systems Engineering and Logistics, and we are looking to deepen and broaden these capabilities.

The PST is a growing and successful team delivering value and excellence within daily commuting range from home. We are looking to expand our Manchester office and will be delighted to receive applications from people in the North West.

Qualifications

We’re looking for team members with great interpersonal skills, who love working with others to deliver great outcomes for our clients. We value a diverse professional background, but we expect you to have a successful track record, be appropriately qualified (probably with a degree or equivalent professional qualifications), be an experienced specialist in one of our core capabilities or have the demonstrable aptitude to learn quickly. Our opportunities are at all grades, your entry level will depend on your experience and range of skills. Specifically for Manchester, we are looking for consultants who have a good understanding of business cases and their practical application in both the design and delivery of complex transformation programmes within the Public Sector, covering transport, defence, central and local government, and delivery organisations. You will have a passion for using business case processes and economics to support evidence-based decision-making aimed at maximising the benefits realised through investment in public services.

The successful candidate(s) will need to think strategically, interacting with senior clients to communicate technical concepts in a compelling and accessible way. You should be familiar with business case methodology and using financial and economic models. You will have a strong track record of working with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver tangible outcomes.

If you have some of the following skills and experience, we can offer the opportunity to make the most of them and to develop in other areas to build your career.
  • Experience of developing large (>£100m) public sector business cases for capital investment.
  • Experience of using HM Treasury Green Book and business case standards.
  • Better Business Cases accreditation
  • You’ll most likely have P3M experience, ideally in major procurements, infrastructure or technology programmes.
  • You’ll be committed to managing projects successfully and will probably have some of the AXELOS™ qualifications (eg PRINCE2, MSP, MoP), maybe you’ll have certifications in Agile, and you may have APM qualifications (eg ChPP, PPQ, PMQ) or be working towards these.
  • You’ll have been able to put your project management experience to good use and may have used Project Controls tools such as Primavera or MS Project on a regular basis.
  • Experience of developing large (>£100m) public sector business cases for capital investment.
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience of using MS Excel and other modelling tools.
  • The ability to balance strategic, big picture, problem solving with project management disciplines.
Some of our clients require Security Clearance and it would be helpful if you already had this in place.
