Job description

Duties include but not limited to:

· All minor repairs to furniture and fittings. To install shelving, notice boards and other fixtures and fittings

· All minor plumbing works such as unblocking sinks, shower traps & WCs

· Under the direction of the Buildings & Facilities Manager, minor redecoration works including painting, wallpapering and generally making good

· Testing of portable electrical appliances in line with BISC policy, labelling/marking and recording data

· Undertaking statutory compliance inspections as directed. This includes recording and registering of results from tests such as emergency lighting and water hygiene working in accordance with L8 regulations

· Sourcing materials as required and gathering costs and other data for the Buildings & Facilities Manager, following the BISC Procurement Policy

· Retaining a small stock of materials and tools required for reactive repairs whilst maintaining them in a secure, clean, and safe environment

· To use basic computer software and systems as appropriate, including Outlook email and Word.

Person specification

Essential requirements include:

· Relevant role-related training (a recognised City & Guilds or NVQ 2 qualification in a building discipline/trade, or a related subject would be desirable)

· Relevant work experience in building/maintenance services within a customer facing environment

· Skilled in carrying out semi-domestic maintenance tasks, using hand and power tools safely (familiar with H&S regulations)

· An understanding of basic plumbing systems and the ability to carry out basic plumbing maintenance duties

· Problem solving skills with the ability to identify and implement practical solutions to routine maintenance tasks

· Professional and flexible approach

· High level of attention to detail

· Self-motivated, and able to work on own initiative

· Eligibility to work in the UK

· Successful completion of an Enhanced DBS check.
