We are Ian Macleod Distillers (IMD), a fourth generation family owned and managed whisky and spirits business operating across the UK and internationally. We are producers of multi award winning premium whisky and gin with many other whiskies and spirits as part of our portfolio. Crafting Spirits With Passion, is what we do best… not only are we producers of exquisite brands, but we are also distributors and suppliers in B2B and B2C channels. We are a brand led, successful family business with our spirits (people and brands), at our very core. Driven by passion, enthusiasm and solid business values, we are now expanding our B2C offering and continuing to invest in each of our brand homes (visitor centres) as our brands continue to evolve and grow.

Our physical brand homes (BH) sites are currently in Edinburgh (Edinburgh Gin) and North Glasgow (Glengoyne) and we have consistently been rated on Trip Advisor as part of Scotland’s top rated tourist attractions! Our teams already deliver some of the finest distillery tours and tastings in the country and provide truly engaging and world class visitor experiences. Not one for ‘resting on our laurels’, we continue to make further capital investments across all of our core brand homes. We are committed to continuing to invest in this business channel. We will shortly be opening a brand new city centre Edinburgh Gin distillery and visitor centre and will also be opening a new distillery and visitor centre in Falkirk (Rosebank)!

Our new opportunity…

Our brand new role within Edinburgh Gin – Brand Homes Duty Manager, will report to our Distillery Experience Manager (Edinburgh Gin). The role holder will be part of the sites management team and be responsible for leading the established team of Distillery Ambassadors, in thedelivery of tours, tastings, events, trade visits and all visit related activity to a high standard. It truly is an exciting time for our Brand Home and this could be an excellent opportunity for someone who has true passion and is dedicated to providing an exceptional visitor experience in a warm and friendly environment.

Our ideal candidate…

In order to be considered for this opportunity, we are looking for candidates who have previous experience in a similar role to ours and can clearly demonstrate they have exceptional customer service and people management skills, ideally within a visitor attraction and/or hospitality environment. Previous experience within the whisky and spirits industry would be beneficial but not essential.

We are looking for someone with a charismatic, warm and engaging personality, who is able to leada successful team of individuals, establishing a warm and friendly culture. An effective communicator who can build strong relationships, and work together with the team to deliver a seamless servicewhich will excite and delight our customers. We are looking for candidates who have an eye for detail and a drive for ongoing improvement!

We operate annualised hours, therefore previous experience of managing these operationally would be advantageous.

Candidates must also have a true and authentic passion for our Edinburgh Gin brand and be able to help translate brand values and ethos throughout all aspects of the operational world.

ROLE SUMMARY



Our Brand Home team are the public face of Edinburgh Gin and Ian Macleod Distillers (IMD), bringing our world class processes and spirits to life, communicating the essence of the brand in a way that fundamentally delights consumers, inspiring long-term brand devotion.


As Duty Manager, your role is to manage the Distillery Ambassador team delivering tours, tastings, events, trade visits and other visitor focused activity. To meet high standards of customer service and run the day to day visitor operation to ensure we provide every visitor with an exceptional experience which exceeds their expectations in a welcoming and friendly environment.



ROLE DESCRIPTION


Responsibilities


Key Day to Day Activities


Brand Home Operations

  • Ensure smooth daily operations of all visitor activities including tours, trade visits and events, responding to changes and unexpected visitors to ensure an excellent visitor experience.
  • Give daily briefings and coordinate daily activity on site giving clear instruction Distillery Ambassadors on duties and activities.
  • Be the main contact for daily operations providing support and assistance to the wider brand home team on duty each day.
  • Support excellent communication within the Brand Home and production teams to coordinate on site activities.
  • Ensure staff deliver and comply with IMD Policies and administration requirements including Financial, HR, IT, Health and Safety and Data Protection requirements.
  • Act as a fire marshal, first aider and responsible person in the event of emergencies and absence of senior production colleagues.
  • Monitor the maintenance and upkeep of the site ensuring standards are met and escalating issues as required.
  • Being a site key holder, opening and closing the site daily ensuring all security procedures are followed.
  • Seek continuous improvements in operating procedures to support IMD goals in terms of customer service provision, staff engagement, brand loyalty and sustainability.


Internal and External Customer Engagement


  • Proactively anticipate visitor and customer needs and amend or create service solutions to meet need.
  • Liaise with colleagues in Sales and Marketing and across site to ensure great communication regarding bookings and visitor operations.
  • To drive excellence in the provision of products and services ensuring that every customer has a memorable and enjoyable experience.
  • Conduct oneself in a manner which portrays the high standards of quality and professionalism associated with IMD.
  • Supporting with customer facing activity as required.

Leadership and People Management


  • Create a culture of excellence and an environment that inspires and motivates the Distillery Ambassadors to deliver exceptional visitor experiences.
  • Lead by example by modelling desired behaviours and values for the team.
  • Line manage a team of Distillery Ambassadors, with close liaison with other Duty Manager to ensure consistency of management approach. •
  • Work as a team with the Distillery Experience Manager and other Duty Managers to lead, inspire and motivate the team of Distillery Ambassadors.
  • Set clear goals, targets and performance objectives for the team and individuals, monitoring and proactively managing performance as required.
  • Develop training and development plans for the team to ensure to successfully build staff knowledge and skills to fully prepare and equip them to deliver first class tours and experiences.
  • Ensure excellent administration of all people processes including recruitment, induction, training, rotas, holidays and payroll.
  • Provide direct reports with regular constructive feedback on individual performance and guidance on development requirements, managing any performance issues which may arise
