About The Role

Base Location: Glasgow, Perth, Inverness or Aberdeen.

Salary: £38,700 - £58,100 + car / allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

SSEN are looking for a Biodiversity Strategic Projects Manager (Peatland/Woodland) to identify, develop and implement the delivery of strategic habitat enhancement sites and support our over-arching Transmission Biodiversity Net Gain delivery, irreplaceable habitats, and Nature-based Solutions plan. This unique position plays a key part particularly in relation to ancient woodland and peatland restoration.

The Key Responsibilities Involved Are As Follows

  • Cross functional working with colleagues in Communities, Forestry, Legal and Land to identify potential opportunities to collaborate with third party landowners on strategic habitat enhancement projects with a particular focus on ancient woodland and peatland restoration
  • Work with other members of the Consents & Environment Team and external stakeholders to ensure that the projects deliver against business and regulatory targets relating to Biodiversity Net Gain, irreplaceable habitats and Nature-based Solutions.
  • Design, establish and deliver new processes and ways of working to secure irreplaceable

habitat and strategic biodiversity enhancement sites in such a way as to meet business and

regulatory targets (from optioneering through to Operations).

  • Offer technical input, guidance and support to all business units on habitat enhancement projects requirements particularly in relation to peatland and ancient woodland restoration.
  • Provide robust and accurate monthly strategic Biodiversity Net Gain, Irreplaceable habitat and

woodland compensation delivery statistics/KPI’s for business dashboards. Input into regulatory

output reports and incentive submissions for Ofgem.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • Expert knowledge of Habitat Enhancement, particularly practical experience of design, delivery and monitoring of peatland restoration and ancient woodland restoration.
  • Ability to build and foster excellent relationships with internal and external stakeholders to engage, influence and negotiate to ensure SSEN is a sector leader in off-site habitat enhancement.
  • In depth knowledge of environmental law, Scottish woodland and peatland grant schemes in relation to carbon as well as the developing Natural Capital market.
  • Demonstrable project management expertise and understanding of major projects delivery, ideally within a Transmission environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of Environmental Impact Assessment legislation.
