Bids and Grants Manager

Job brief

The post holder will be responsible for the acquisition of funding via Bid/Grant applications to Trusts and Foundations and Charity of the Year applications to corporate supporters. In addition to this they will support the Head of Development and Economic Generation in the writing of documents for tenders and contract funding.

The experienced Bid Writer individual will be responsible for researching and writing compelling funding proposals to UK trusts and other grant-making organisations and donors, effectively communicating the vision and mission of Daisy Chain to potential funders.

The post holder will work diligently to research and understand potential funders requirements in respect of the submissions being made to ensure that all submissions are accurate, fully complete and issued within the timescales required.

The post-holder will also work with a portfolio of new and existing funders, submitting funding proposals and managing existing grants relationships.

Hours-37.5 hours per week (Full Time)

Salary-£26,000-£30,000 per annum depending on experience

Key Tasks

Grant Applications

  • Write compelling grant applications to Trusts, Foundations ensuring all submissions are submitted within the deadlines established.
  • Write persuasive Charity of the Year applications to corporate supporters and businesses.
  • Prepare and submit high-quality, compelling funding proposals to new and existing funders in order for Daisy Chain to meet its strategic priorities.
  • Ensure all bids are accurately completed and represent the company experience and abilities in the best possible way to secure the grant opportunity.
  • Coordinate the grant-making process from application stages to project conclusion.
  • Conduct thorough research of the subject area in order to make a convincing case for all applications.
  • Support the Head of Development and Economic Generation throughout the bidding process for tenders and contracts.

Generating Leads

  • Regularly research and review opportunities for building potential relationships with prospective Trusts and Foundations and progressing applications to them.
  • Work with existing networks and contacts to identify and approach potential Trusts and Foundations and develop relationships with key decision-makers there.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to increase income from existing Trust and Foundation relationships.
  • Develop a good understanding of awarding organisations vision, strategy, and plans in order to maximize new funding opportunities.
  • Keep up to date with funding opportunities via regular research of online funder portals and newsletters.
  • Work as part of the fundraising team for one day a week to secure Charity of Choice/ Charity of the Year nominations from corporate supporters and businesses.

Grant Stewardship

  • Ensure timely delivery of grant admin, including thank you letters, receipts, grant progress reports and updates to funders.
  • Prepare reports on grants as requested by the Head of Development and Economic Generation.

Additional responsibilities:

  • Comply with the Charities Health and Safety policy in all employment practices.
  • Maintain the integrity of the Daisy Chain brand in all internal and external communications.
  • Maintain a proactive approach to your role and responsibilities along with a commitment to contribute and maintain the positive working ethos within the Charity.
  • Work in collaboration with different Managers and team members across various departments.
  • Maintain working knowledge of the policies and regulations governing the Charity

  • Undertake any training and development deemed necessary for the pursuance of the post.
  • Work in a way that contributes to the continuous improvement of Charitys services and embraces the organisations quality initiatives.

Essential:

  • An established bid writer with recent experience and a proven track record in securing income via bid/grant applications (A, I, T)
  • The ability to independently write successful grant applications to UK Trusts and Foundations (A, I, T)
  • Able to manage complex processes, problem solve, adapt to change and communicate with a range of stakeholders in order to leverage funding support (A, I)
  • Proven ability to compose persuasive and compelling funding requests to a variety of audiences (T)
  • Demonstrable experience in writing or supporting successful contracts and tenders for services (A, I)
  • An understanding of the difference between outcomes and outputs and the ability to articulate these clearly (I)
  • An understanding of implementing fundraising strategies and meeting targets (A, I)
  • Strong research skills to identify a beneficiary need and socio-economic data for the area to be used to enhance bid submissions (A, I)
  • Knowledge of producing monitoring reports to funders (A, I)
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work within agreed and often tight timescales (I, T)
  • Able to work to tight deadlines and willing and able to work under pressure whilst maintaining high levels of accuracy and attention to detail (A, I)
  • Enhanced project management skills to effectively manage a portfolio of grant and bidding applications (I)
  • Knowledge of the current grant funding climate and how this influences the bid writing process (I)
  • Understanding of and ability to use and interpret financial data, such as budgets and accounts (A, I)
  • Proven ability to proactively build effective relationships with external stakeholders to leverage additional funding opportunities (A, I)
  • Able to promote Daisy Chain to a variety of audiences (A, I, T)
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills (A, I, T)
  • IT literate and able to use all appropriate software packages (A)
  • Proven track record of delivering financial bid writing KPIs.
  • Willingness to be flexible about the work undertaken and ability to operate at all levels (A, I)
  • Ability to travel to projects, events, and meetings (A)
  • Understanding of and commitment to the aims, ethos, and philosophy of Daisy Chain. (A, I)

Desirable:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Recognised fundraising qualification
  • Knowledge of the funding environment within education/childrens/adults services/disability services
  • Ability to secure corporate donations via Charity of the Year applications
  • Commitment to and experience of working with multi-agency partners
  • Experience of working within the voluntary sector
  • Experience of using procurement portals such as NEPO, Contracts Finder, DWP or equivalent.
