Bid Manager

Would you like to manage a portfolio of bid projects, work with a cross-functional team and interact with senior leaders in a variety of settings? We currently have a vacancy for a Bid Manager at our site in Rochester.

As a Bid Manager, you will create value for BAE Systems and our customers by winning business through the delivery of timely and accurate bids. In this highly collaborative role, you will manage a portfolio of bid projects, work with a cross-functional team and interact with senior leaders in a variety of settings. The role reports to the Bid Centre Manager, is a Project Management discipline and will operate in support of multiple product lines.

Taking advantage of the breadth of your stakeholder engagement, you will be a catalyst for change: challenging our decision-making processes; enabling us to learn from experience, and operating with calm professionalism in a highly changeable business environment.

This new role within our Rochester Business Centre (RBC) is suited to candidates from a diverse range of professional backgrounds, including Project/Engineering Management, Planning and other business support functions. This role offers existing Project Managers the opportunity to diversify their experience and presents opportunities to progress into other functions within the business.

Your Main Responsibilities As a Bid Manager Will Involve
  • Management and on-time delivery of bids, according to a clearly defined bid plan, supporting the Capture manager and Technical Lead
  • Creation of appropriately tailored bid plans, encompassing success criteria, activities, dependencies and named resources
  • Supporting Capture Managers to generate execution strategy and plans to ensure that successful bids are executable upon award
  • Driving ownership of activities and tasks throughout the project team
  • Active engagement across the bid team, through reporting and knowledge sharing
  • Support to Bid Status Reviews, ensuring data is current and accurate
  • Generation of actionable information using tools such as Power BI
  • Support to key meetings, including Phase Reviews (0, 1A, 1B, 2A), RBAs, Technical Bid Reviews and Risk & Opportunity Reviews
  • Ownership of the Memorandum of Cost (MoC) to document and summarise the bid
  • Supporting estimators and supporting functions with proposal deliverables
Essential

Your skills and qualifications:
  • Aptitude to become a subject matter expert in the bid process, including lifecycle management
  • Experience of planning and proactive management
  • Able to analyse data to inform decision making and create actionable insights
  • Highly collaborative; able to work effectively with cross-functional teams and take strategic direction from Capture Managers
  • Acting as a change champion, promoting and embedding best practice across RBC functions and bidding activities
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions with clarity in an environment of ambiguity & uncertainty
Desirable
  • Experience of various estimating methodologies, including parametric estimating
  • Ability to interpret and communicate customer requirements, identifying and mitigating risk and assessing opportunity
  • Able to adapt to increasingly complex and dynamic situations
  • Experience in planning, managing and delivering bid and proposal activities, exposure to MS Project
  • Familiarity with lifecycle management and gated review processes to develop and submit customer proposals in line with company policy and regulatory requirements

Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 dependant on experience
