Summary

About the Civil Recovery Unit

The Civil Recovery Unit (CRU) is a multi-disciplinary operational unit of the Serious Casework Group function. The CRU acts on behalf of the Scottish Ministers as the enforcement authority for Scotland under Part 5 of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. In doing so, it investigates and seeks to recover the proceeds of crime through the civil courts.

Job description

We are looking for accredited financial investigators or those with strong investigative experience within a law enforcement or asset recovery environment. The post-holders will be responsible for their own caseloads and will take all steps necessary to prepare cases for civil recovery proceedings under Part 5 of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.

Training will be provided to support successful candidates.

Responsibilities

Essential Criteria Required

As well as the competencies within the application pack:

  • Accredited Financial Investigators (via the National Police Improvement Agency or Scottish Police College approved courses) or those with significant frontend investigative experience (successful candidates would be expected to attain accreditation as part of the requirements for the role)
  • The post-holder will have a full valid driving licence
  • Literacy and fluency in English
  • Sound knowledge of IT software packages
  • Excellent communication and engagement skills with demonstrable experience of communicating at all levels verbally and in writing
  • Be an effective, strong team player and be aware of and recognise the needs and pressures of others
  • Be able to communicate effectively and sensitively with all internal and external stakeholders across the public and private sectors
  • Analysis of complex information and drafting clear narratives and conclusions
  • Ability to work on your own initiative, prioritising a diverse workload, showing judgement in reaching decisions and meeting challenging deadlines.

Desirable Criteria

  • A knowledge and understanding of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002
  • Successful candidates will require to be security vetted to SC level.
