Job purpose:

  • To work with the Publishing team regarding identification, acquisition, management and development of high impact scientific content, helping to generate a content pipeline for both Current Opinion and Current Research titles (CO+RE).
  • Pro-actively analyze possible topics for Special content. Commission both Section Editors and potential authors. Work with publishers, to grow content volume and improve overall journal quality.
  • To establish and maintain close contacts with the scientific community in academia and industry, and to work directly with authors, reviewers and editors to help manage an efficient, rigorous and author friendly peer-review process which maintains high professional and scientific standards.
  • To provide both administrative and analytical support for selected titles e.g. rejected paper analyses, and any activity related to support content development for designated portfolios.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with external editors to triage submissions based on scope and journal standards.
  • Responsible for managing the solicitation of journal content in new and emerging fields; commissioning review material and acquiring high impact content.
  • Monitoring and reporting on the peer review process, acting as a liaison between the external editors, authors/reviewers, and publishing colleagues.
  • Responsible for building a network of editors, scientific reviewers, and authors in multiple sub-specialties.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Life Sciences; Postgraduate (MSc/PhD) a plus, but not required.
  • Understanding of academic publishing
  • Customer-focused, attentive.
  • Excellent interactive, team working skills and a drive to collaborate across multiple internal departments, ability to connect with a broad range of people as well as to work independently.
  • Flexible, analytical and proactive; ability to think critically about a wide range of scientific issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communications.
  • Experience of authoring and the peer review process would be helpful.
