Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for assisting in the provision of the Histopathology Service across Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB).

Working with the Consultant Histopathologists and other members of the team to provide an accurate, and where possible, rapid diagnosis of specimens, which will improve the clinical treatment of patients, contributing to their welfare. Carrying out, under minimal supervision by qualified staff the routine tasks in the laboratory not requiring all the specialist skills or training of a BMS. This involves practising, within competence, the duties of a Higher grade MLA. Carrying out some of the core analytical work of the department using routine procedures, conforming to agreed standard operational procedures, policies and good laboratory practice.

To assist in training and development of Associate Practitioners (Associate Healthcare Scientists), Medical Laboratory assistants (Assistant Healthcare Scientists) and other appropriate trainees when required.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
