We are seeking a motivated and diligent Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our clients commercial department and support their Senior Surveyor in managing the costs of building projects. Your role will be vital in ensuring cost efficiency without compromising on the quality of our work. If you have a keen eye for detail, strong financial acumen, and a passion for construction, we invite you to apply for this exciting opportunity.Job PurposeAs an Assistant Quantity Surveyor your main role will be to assist the Senior Surveyor and collaborate with various teams to manage project costs effectively. You will play a key role in recording and pricing variations, performing cost analyses, managing subcontractor orders, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.Main Responsibilities
  • Maintain strict control over variations on multiple ongoing projects, recording and pricing them accurately for final accounts.
  • Calculate and prepare company valuations and final accounts in collaboration with the commercial department.
  • Prepare and present monthly job cost analysis data for review.
  • Analyse current processes and develop improved methods of working to enhance efficiency.
  • Manage subcontract orders, applications, and enquiries, ensuring proper management.
  • Undertake costs analysis for repair and maintenance projects.
  • Assist in determining client requirements and conducting feasibility studies.
  • Liaise with internal Accounts Departments to ensure cash flow for monthly payment certificates.
  • Perform risk and value management, and exercise cost control measures.
  • Evaluate costs of subcontractors before commencing work.
  • Identify, analyse, and address commercial risks effectively.
  • Allocate work to subcontractors and oversee their performance.
  • Value completed work and arrange timely payments.
  • Stay updated with various building contracts in current use.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of health and safety regulations.
Knowledge
  • HNC in Construction or relevant Degree level qualification.
  • Detailed knowledge of private residential building contracting.
  • Awareness of property taxation matters and contractual law.
  • Strong technical understanding of traditional and modern building methods and products, including refurbishment and new build projects in the prime and super prime residential sector.
Skills
  • Proficient in MS Office, with an intermediate level of expertise in Excel.
  • Excellent written communication skills, capable of conveying complex figures, calculations, and building information clearly and precisely.
  • Strong numeracy and financial management skills, with the ability to adapt to construction management IT packages.

  • Exhibit professionalism and responsibility befitting an Assistant Quantity Surveyor.
  • Approach problem-solving with practicality, logic, and methodical thinking.
  • Confidently engage with Architects, Quantity Surveyors, Clients, and Subcontractors.
  • Previous experience in a similar role would be an advantage.
Working Hours
  • 41 hours per week.
  • Monday to Thursday: 08:00 am to 17:30 pm.
  • Friday: 08:00 am to 16:00 pm, with a 45-minute unpaid break each day.
