Whilst ABP is the UK’s largest port operator operating 21 Ports around the country and support 119,000 jobs, handling over £150Bn in trade and contributing £7.5Bn to the British economy, we’re also one of the largest landowners and currently have around 224 acres of unused land within our portfolio. In order to best utilise this our DevCo team look to develop our unused land for a wide variety of uses which can include long term lease, redevelopment or sale.

Due to our expanding pipeline of business we’re looking to add an Assistant Project Manager to give us continued capacity and increase the contribution the team makes to the business. You should come from a development background and have experience primarily at the pre-construction phase of projects ideally within the commercial or industrial sectors, with some appreciation of residential. The role will work on multiple projects at the front end and will focus on feasibility, costings, scope of works and finding creative solutions to utilise our landbank. Someone with experience in both the consultancy and contracting side is ideal, with some client exposure but weighting towards either is very much of interest.

Working as part of a small team you’ll have a high level of autonomy, be given the remit to work in a highly creative way without the "paint by numbers" approach that you may have found in your career to date. Strong experience of MsProjects and Excel is expected, and you should be comfortable with tracking progress including providing updates to internal and external partners.

Key Requirements:

  • Some experience in a construction project management (either as a consultant or client side)
  • Good working knowledge of the Microsoft Excel and Project software.
  • Full Driving Licence
  • Commercially minded and technically creative when considering options for value realisation.

As the development teams are responsible for dealing with all of our ports we offer a high element of flexibility in the location for this role. Whilst we have hybrid working arrangements in place, you’ll ideally be based near one of our 21 ports - but there is a requirement for regular travel as required by individual projects and sites.
